3 reasons why work at Capital One matters
Every day, associates at Capital One are able to do inspiring, innovative and impactful work. Associates aren’t just changing banking for good—they’re playing important roles improving the lives of Capital One customers and our communities.
We spoke to a few associates and leaders about the meaningful work they do.
Work that innovates
“We created a chatbot for students who are applying for loans and federal funding. The bot was created to answer a ton of questions they may have. It’s allowed us to show our customers that we’re positioning ourselves as a company that supports them during significant financial decisions.” - Jenn, senior manager in project management for Capital One Cafés
“My job within Capital One, since I'm on the intelligence side, is trying to distill threat actors and making sure that we don't have people causing harm to our associates, our network, our consumers and the whole ecosystem. It's challenging work, but I love it. I want to make things better. I want to improve. I’m part of the solution to help rise to the challenge.” Chantel, director for Cyber Security Intelligence
Work that inspires associates
“When COVID came in 2020, some customers couldn’t make their payments. We figured out the best way for us to help customers is by providing many of them with extensions through a new online service. This helped a lot of customers when there were a lot of uncertainties. Our work making banking more equitable at Capital One is impacting so many customers’ lives in a very positive way. It really motivates me to come back to work every day and keep working and keep pushing to find new solutions. I know that at the end of the day what I'm building is directly helping a customer.” - Leo, manager of software engineering in Customer Experience
“At Capital One, there are a bunch of internal hackathons where we are able to throw ideas around and see what we like. A big migration effort started during one of these hackathons, which we worked on for six months. We were able to optimize the systems and save Capital One resources. It was really impressive to see an idea come to life. Just to be part of such a big movement and process was really fun and built up my confidence.” - Ralph, senior associate software engineer in Mobile Applications
“In my role, I create development activities and engagement activities for associates in Commercial Product. I think of my role as cultivating a community. The leaders within our organization are really focused on what we can do better for our associates and how we can help them show up as their best selves every day. With the programming, whether it be speaker events, book clubs or volunteer activities, I’m building that community.”
- Romain, senior manager in Commercial Lending
Work that creates community
“Capital One is consistent with our commitment to supporting the community. Through our work with South Dallas YMCA, we provide volunteers and lend our expertise in marketing or finance. It helps everyone work better and accomplish the mission to change banking, and our communities, for good.” - Jorge, director in Commercial Bank
“I love having the opportunity to work with Capital One within their university recruitment. I was able to connect recruiters to a student organization I was a part of. They were able to attend events and connect students with opportunities at Capital One. There is so much talent that's looking to break into tech. When I see Capital One collaborating on different events and opportunities with students, especially those from underrepresented groups, it lets them know they can have a seat at the table here.” - Jalen, Design Development Program (DDP) associate
“I am a chapter leader of Salute, our Business Resource Group (BRG) for active military, veterans and families, here in Plano. We work really hard to be an advocate for employees and their families. We think it’s very important that we have a community here for them. We have people that have gone through it that can support them, that can lend help. We send care packages to people’s families and have support groups. It's a great community for military families and veterans.” - Merideth, senior manager in Compliance
“With the Capital One Pro Bono Program, associates give their time to work with small businesses in their area. Right now I’m on a team with other product managers supporting a local organization that helps restaurant entrepreneurs test out their recipes. I’m able to follow my passions and it shows me that working at Capital One isn't just a job, but rather a well-rounded career.” - Snigdha, Management Rotation Program (MRP) associate
