Capital One Mexico tech leader shares 4 career tips
Capital One Mexico City brings together some of the brightest minds in technology to reshape the financial industry. Our technologists engineer innovative, resilient solutions that deliver best-in-class innovation to our business and our 65 million customers—and counting.
Judith Gonzalez, Capital One Mexico’s country manager, is helping to lead that charge.
Judith, who’s from Guadalajara, has been part of Mexico’s tech ecosystem for nearly 30 years. She was drawn to Capital One because of the opportunity for technologists and product managers to define, develop and own products end-to-end that benefit millions of people. She was struck by the opportunity to help people manage and improve their financial lives with the high-value products our technologists build. To achieve this, we’re growing our deeply talented team of technologists who build products, services and experiences.
“The opportunity for Capital One Mexico’s talent is enormous and can ultimately change the trajectory of Mexico’s technology industry in the future,” Judith said.
To be part of that change, Judith has four pieces of advice for aspiring technologists.
Tip 1: Keep learning and expressing your curiosity
We’re hiring technologists and product managers with growth mindsets who are ready to define, develop and own products end-to-end for the benefit of millions of people. And, Capital One has the resources you need to grow—including free technical certifications, immersive hands-on learnings, and educational assistance. You can keep your skills up to date and access new opportunities to grow with resources like Tech College, our engineer-designed and associate-led learning platform with thousands of free courses for developing new and upskilling current tech skills, and One Learn, an internal system for instructor-led and self-paced classes on subjects like AWS bootcamps, product management and becoming a better communicator.
Tip 2: Collaborate with your community
We are better when we work together, which is why Capital One supports everything from hackathons to internal conferences to mentorship programs for associates to connect. These are great opportunities to sharpen your skills and give back! Become a part of our supportive associate community—meet new people, get involved, and experience the vibrant culture at Capital One. Here, you can build a lasting and invested network of peers, mentors, leaders and partners.
Tip 3: Think long-term growth
Look for opportunities that allow you to establish yourself in the tech industry and build a long-term career. In addition to our abundance of career development resources, leaders at Capital One encourage associates to pursue opportunities that excite them, even if that means switching teams to create new products. Thinking long-term about growth is why Capital One undertook the journey in 2012 to go all-in on the public cloud. It’s a decision that has enabled rapid innovation and more agility when developing and delivering technology products that have a positive impact for our customers.
Tip 4: Join Capital One Mexico
We operate as a bank a tech company would build. Technology is central to our business strategy and to how we deliver differential value to our customers. If you want to go boldly where no bank has gone before, the final piece of advice is an easy one: Apply to Capital One Mexico today.
