Tech is a team sport in Mexico City

As a software engineer in Mexico City, writing code isn’t just about execution for Arturo—it’s about having a high-performance mindset. He’s always been competitive and approaches his work like an athlete. He views every project as a chance to outdo himself, and every line of code as a chance to make an impact.

Just like in sports, there’s no shortcut—only practice, feedback and a willingness to learn from mistakes. For Arturo, success isn’t about a single win. It’s about showing up consistently, pushing yourself and helping his team do the same.

Where elite talent meets essential tech

As a senior manager of software engineering at Capital One Mexico City, Arturo believes that creating world-class tech requires working alongside world-class talent. “If you work with the best, you force yourself to be the best, too,” he said.

His team is at the heart of the action, making sure an internally facing application programming interface performs at a massive scale. “This API must support 10,000 transactions per second,” he said. “It’s the kind of work most don’t see, but everyone depends on.” At that scale, robust software isn’t optional, it’s essential. And Arturo’s team is on top of it.

Getting to do great work is only half the story for Arturo. The other half is all about the real trust placed in the engineers. Here, he’s found a leadership team that backs his expertise with real investment. Case in point: only weeks after joining, Arturo was heading to McLean, Virginia, to showcase his team’s work at an internal forum.

“The work we’re doing matters,” Arturo said. “It’s changing the software landscape and improving the lives of over 100 million customers.”

Building an engineering playbook

Arturo brings that same level of trust and investment to his own leadership mentality. As a team leader, he approaches mentorship like a coach, meeting engineers where they are and helping them master the fundamentals. Many on his team are early in their careers, eager to learn the playbook and understand how the tech landscape really works.

Drawing on 20 years of experience, Arturo sees his role as helping engineers build confidence, not chase perfection. The focus is steady progress and becoming better over time.

“I always want to coach them to not make the same mistakes I did,” Arturo said. “But mistakes are part of the game. You learn from them. We’re all human.”

Much like an athlete shaped by discipline and consistency, Arturo sees his journey as the result of daily effort over time. Looking ahead, the chance to be a top engineer feels deeply personal—proof that the work, setbacks and perseverance all mattered. “That’s a dream come true for me.”

Arturo’s path shows what can happen when passion meets opportunity. Turn your talent into impact and explore opportunities to build your software engineering career at Capital One Mexico City.
