Capital One’s Consumer & Financial Risk Management, a second line organization, is responsible for developing Capital One’s strategies, policies, and governance related to credit. An effective credit risk management governance structure is important to the safe and sound operation of financial organizations. Granting and administering of credit, as well as monitoring and managing credit risk are vital to the daily activities of the corporation. Within the organization, the Credit Controls Management Team (CCMT) conducts end-to-end testing of controls and requirements within the credit infrastructure to ensure that intent, design, and execution meet all policy requirements.
The Credit Controls Management Team (CCMT) is seeking a highly self-motivated and detail-oriented Principle Associate to lead projects in validating the execution of credit policy intent as well as the design and performance of credit controls The role involves developing testing scope, implementing testing projects, and sharing outcomes with leadership. A significant portion of the time is allocated to research to ensure timely and relevant results. Collaboration across a wide range of teams, with diverse skill sets and accountabilities, is essential to deliver sustainable outcomes for first line teams.
Core capabilities include collaboration across large teams, sound judgement in making decisions when faced with multiple options, implementing change management practices to quickly adapt when researching or testing outcomes necessitate modifications, and ensuring results are grounded using various methods and techniques to maintain completeness and accuracy of reporting.
The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of credit concepts, a demonstrated ability to manage simultaneous projects at different stages, and the ability to assess whether processes and controls are well-designed. A passion for continuous learning and process improvement is crucial for navigating the complex and fast paced testing environment.
Responsibilities:
Plan and execute credit policy control assessments
Identify and implement process improvements to keep pace with first line testing programs
Perform project management duties to ensure all testing activities for the team are completed within established timeframes
Conduct transaction testing for credit policy requirements and credit intent in alignment with team methodology and procedures
Research reports and account level customer data to validate outliers identified through testing and cross reference through available means
Assist in reviewing documentation of variables used to define coding for system logic
Conduct control testing to verify design, execution, and escalation are aligned with required policies
Conduct research of credit infrastructure systems, platforms, processes to modify testing approach as needed
Obtain and analyze test data from multiple sources, following testing protocols and leveraging job aids as needed
Collaborate with independent risk management teams to coordinate research and ground findings
Provide training and overviews of team processes or recently completed evaluations
Document results in required formats and system of record
Perform validation of remediation activities as needed
Assist in communicating results to business areas and Credit Risk Management leadership as needed
Basic Qualifications:
GED, High School Diploma, or Equivalent Certification
At least 3 years of risk, audit, or compliance experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
5+ years of risk, audit, or compliance experience
1+ years of Data or Business Analytics experience
Basic knowledge of SQL

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $117,300 - $133,900 for Principal Risk SpecialistCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
