This role will be responsible for leading a team of instructional designers to deliver a diverse set of learning experiences to support our Retail Bank teams. This leader will partner closely with other learning leaders and key business partners to create custom learning strategies. They will empower their team to analyze learning needs, design and develop blended learning solutions from raw materials, and measure and report on learning effectiveness. We are focused on delivering memorable, engaging, learning experiences to our associates that drive performance and achieve business objectives by leveraging integrated learning throughout their career. 

The ideal candidate for this role is:

  • Expert in Adult Learning: You know adult learning theory, cognitive science, and other evidence-based learning fields. You also have a passion for staying on top of the latest research developments and tools and technologies in the field.

  • Collaborative Relationship Manager: Value co-creation and can partner across learning teams in the organization and business partners. Develop the business acumen to effectively balance learning best practices with business needs & constraints, using good judgment in balancing both quality and efficiency.

  • Strategic Learning Partner: Stays current with emerging design trends and anticipates future learning needs, thinks holistically, solves problems systemically, balances long-term learning vision with operational excellence, and manages multiple priorities effectively.

  • Insight-driven Storyteller: Uses feedback, data, and insights to declare a problem statement and drive decisions with continuous improvement. Communicates with clarity and influence across a variety of audiences and levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop your team to be well rounded learning professionals through business acumen, design integrity, tools and technology, adult learning theory, and professional skills

  • Keep a pulse on team’s capacity and prioritization to effectively delegate work and communicate expectations with partners about deliverables

  • Be in sync with business cycles and dynamics to anticipate learning needs, make informed decisions, and make proactive recommendations

  • Use data driven insights to identify and communicate team impact and make recommendations on future learning strategy

  • Work with other learning leaders to identify opportunities for efficiencies throughout the learning design process or by leveraging existing materials

  • Collaborate with other learning leaders to establish processes, norms, and best practices across teams that support collaboration and learning design excellence

Basic Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification

  • At least 2 years of experience in people leadership

  • At least 3 years of experience in client facing consulting 

  • At least 5 years of experience as a Learning Designer, designing learning experiences across digital and in-person learning environments

  • At least 1 year of experience in learning strategy creation

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 1+ years experience working in a call center environment

  • 1+ years experience working in a customer facing environment

  • 1+ years experience in change management 

  • 2+ years of experience in learning strategy creation

  • 1+ years experience with multi-modal learning strategies

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $126,700 - $144,600 for Learning Manager


Richmond, VA: $115,200 - $131,500 for Learning Manager


Wilmington, DE: $115,200 - $131,500 for Learning Manager









Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
