Lead, Students & Grads University Relations & Events
The University Relations & Events team is seeking a Lead at the Manager level, who will be responsible for the leadership of a team of 15 Event Leads and people leaders. This team will be responsible for managing and overseeing university partnerships and event strategies split out by regions across several job families. As the Lead, this individual will be responsible for setting the overall events strategy to support recruiting verticals as well as continuously improving event strategies and partnerships. They should constantly survey the events landscape for emerging trends, and be comfortable testing and learning different approaches to reach diverse candidates. This role will have a heavy focus on people management, with direct responsibility of leading and managing a large team, as well as expectations for broader team leadership.
The Lead is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with business partners and the recruiting team to create and adapt our events strategy into a meaningful candidate experience that attracts new talent to our organization and exposes them to the amazing Capital One culture. The University Relations & Events team delivers 600+ events per year, so this is a fast-paced culture with many growth and leadership opportunities.
In this role you will also:
Be hyper-focused on providing an exceptional candidate and associate/client experience with each and every event we host.
Oversee event platform needs and strategy within Zoom, Handshake, and Eightfold; ensure tech strategy is providing a differentiated candidate experience.
Measure impact. You will measure and track the success of the event strategy, analyze the return on the investment, and share findings with key stakeholders.
Be a people manager for a large team spread across multiple locations; help with their overall career development and provide guidance and coaching to help them be successful.
Be a uniter. You will bring people from all over the company (from our most senior executives to our newest hires) together for a common goal and you will inspire people to want to travel with you on this journey.
Work closely with the larger Students & Grads team to ensure a cohesive candidate experience throughout the full candidate journey.
Here’s what you’ll need to be successful:
Blend of strategic and tactical thinking, creative and analytical reasoning
Serve as subject matter expert, contributing practitioner, thought leader, career guide and mentor to teams
Exceptional communication skills
Collaborative, team player attitude with the ability to navigate and influence the organization
Regularly and systematically use data to uncover opportunities, track performance, drive decision making, and design scalable solutions
A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on data
Entrepreneurial ability to identify and prioritize opportunities in highly ambiguous contexts
Create and influence the broader campus events strategy across all regions
Track record of defining strategy, creating advocacy/alignment and being accountable for outcomes
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
At least 3 years of experience in Recruiting, Project Management or Events Management or combination
At least 1 year of people management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 4 years of experience in Recruiting
At least 4 years of experience in planning events

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $146,100 - $166,700 for Recruiting ManagerCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
