Director, Portfolio and Project Management Marketing Strategy| Retail Bank

The Retail Bank Marketing team is looking for someone with deep marketing expertise who is interested in applying that experience into building and developing a high-performing marketing organization. This person should be highly organized, emotionally intelligent and skilled in facilitating collaboration across leaders, as they will work directly with the Bank Marketing leadership team to drive strategic planning efforts, keep a pulse on healthy morale and engagement, and ensure key business priorities are successfully executed. The ideal candidate can connect the dots between good process and great results, effectively influence others to achieve organizational goals, and facilitate a vocal leadership team toward purposeful outcomes.

Supporting a marketing organization through growth and transformation 

Capital One’s Retail Bank has grown by leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. The Bank has risen up the league tables in deposits and checking relationships, capitalizing on industry-leading products and a unique challenger brand with superior digital capabilities and distinctive cafes and branches. The Retail Bank Marketing team has been on a two-year journey of transformation into a digital-first, intelligent marketing function to unleash the business’s growth potential. Our team is made up of business and data analysts, marketing strategists, MarTech product and platform managers, data scientists, creatives, project managers and process managers—all working together to create the marketing experiences that will drive more and more customers to bank with Capital One.

Key responsibilities:

Lead cross-team delivery

  • Lead annual and quarterly marketing Strategic Planning processes

    • Ensure annual marketing plan is compiled across lanes: integrating the marketing outlook forecast, budget, goals/objectives and initiatives across Marketing and aligning with tech

    • Ensure clear prioritization alignment of work, experimentation and outcome metrics to OKRs and working with leadership and the expansive Marketing 

    • Facilitate the clear prioritization of work across teams

    • Lead the delivery of the most significant and high priority outcomes in Marketing while leading a team of project managers aligned against top strategic initiatives

  • Keep the organization focused on key priorities through effective business metrics reviews, agile methodologies, and effective use of tools to create transparency

    • Maintain high standard for clear business metric reporting

    • Collaborate closely with sub-organization Program Delivery Leads across the organization to align processes and tools

  • Manage key horizontal process initiatives, including process improvements across our key partner groups

  • Engage with key partners across the organization to ‘connect the dots’ and ensure collaboration across leaders & teams

Build processes and programs to standardize “how we work,” support Marketer success and engagement and build our brand across Capital One as a leading modern marketing organization

  • Lead the codification of marketing best practices, testing, and marketer skill development to ensure consistent standards of quality.

  • Evolves how we work on campaigns and go to market plans within Marketing using best in class tools.

  • Orchestrates end-to-end delivery of strategic change initiatives, guiding project roadmaps, managing risks and dependencies, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

  • Facilitates communication and collaboration among stakeholders, including senior leaders, to ensure buy-in and support for change initiatives.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and seamlessly manages multiple priorities through change

  • Seeks to understand the bigger picture and executes flawlessly and with close attention to detail

  • Can figure out how to leverage pretty much any collaboration software or tool to create transparency and alignment (including Workfront, Jira, Confluence and Google Suite)

  • Takes pride in being able to plan and facilitate any meeting or discussion to achieve its stated objectives

  • Can communicate equally effectively and strategically whether verbally, in writing or through slide decks

  • Has led cross-functional teams to accomplish shared goals whether through direct management or indirect authority

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in digital performance marketing 

  • At least 7 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Marketing or Master of Business Administration (MBA)

  • Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Project Management Professional Certification (PMP)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Riverwoods, IL: $181,800 - $207,500 for Director, Marketing


McLean, VA: $200,100 - $228,400 for Director, Marketing


Richmond, VA: $181,800 - $207,500 for Director, Marketing


Wilmington, DE: $181,800 - $207,500 for Director, Marketing








Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
