Fraud Risk Services Investigators at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent fraud data analysis and investigative skills. Investigators have exposure across internal fraud monitoring functions and are comfortable with external participant reviews, working closely with internal and external teams to identify emerging fraud risks. This role supports root cause analysis efforts and translates fraud data into actionable insights that help identify risks, inform senior stakeholders, through recommendations of mitigation strategies.
Responsibilities:
Fraud Monitoring & Analysis: Perform daily, weekly, and monthly triage and analysis of Global Fraud network data; this includes producing data for consultations and managing real-time responses to network-level fraud events
Risk & Compliance Management: Actively manage risk and participant-impacting issues, conduct investigations into participant and merchant metrics to ensure adherence to operational regulations
Mitigation & Strategy: Develop and deploy countermeasures to mitigate fraud losses and provide post-incident analysis to inform future product planning and mitigation strategies
Operational Support: Provide 24/7 support for network-level fraud events on a rotating schedule, conduct participant outreach during incidents, and support both in-person and remote audits
Stakeholder Engagement: Present KPI/KRIs to business partners and leadership, while providing analytical support during consultation meetings with various business units
Continuous Improvement: Maintain up-to-date process documentation and stay current with industry trends and technological advancements
Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification
At least 4 years of fraud or investigation experience within the financial services industry
At least 3 years of data analysis experience
At least 2 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working within the payments industry
Technical proficiency with SQL or Tableau
Experience presenting data and strategic insights to senior-level audiences

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Fraud Risk InvestigatorCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
