The Enterprise Payments Governance and Oversight team is seeking a dynamic Senior Director level leader who will play a pivotal role defining and implementing the future of payments governance and oversight for the enterprise. The Enterprise Payments Governance and Oversight team sits within the Enterprise Payments organization in the Retail Bank. The team is responsible for the governance and oversight of end-to-end core payments functions for all payment types across the enterprise, including monitoring. In this role, you will be at the forefront of payments, developing solutions to remediate some of the biggest payments-related challenges while also seeking opportunities to further enhance existing business-as-usual practices.
In this exciting role, you will work closely with key stakeholders across the company to ensure we have a dynamic and well-managed payments ecosystem. This role has a high level of exposure across the lines of business and the opportunity to work with Executives to shape and deliver a payments governance strategy and implement critical initiatives tied to the priorities of the Enterprise Payments organization. You will work with smart, talented people who will challenge you to excel.
The Role
As a Senior Director at Capital One, you will create strategy and lead a team through high priority projects for the company, including the Discover integration and establishing payments governance for the Network. You will collaborate with bright and passionate leaders to drive and influence results across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
Serve as a leader and thought partner, engaging executive and senior leaders, to develop the strategic direction of this function
Lead the Governance Advisory team ensuring we are mitigating payments risk across the enterprise
Lead process improvements, create advanced strategies to enhance governance for payments across Capital One
Partner with Divisional Accountable Executives and Business Risk Offices to assess the strategy, operations, and risks for specific payment types throughout the payment lifecycle
Lead a dynamic team to drive results, while creating an inclusive, empowering, and inspiring work environment
Demonstrate deep subject matter expertise in payments (with support to develop this expertise, if not yet acquired)
The Person
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong relationship management, influencing and communication skills. They will be adept at navigating complex challenges, driving process improvements, creating governance in ambiguity, fostering collaboration across teams, and developing and executing strategic plans. A candidate's background would include some mix of risk management, payments operations or strategy, process improvement, or project management in a fast-paced environment.

Has a working knowledge of Risk Management frameworks
Location: West Creek 5 (Richmond, VA) or Center 2 (McLean, VA) - this role is Hybrid, where you will be expected to spend 3 days per week working in office and the remainder of the week working virtually.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience
At least 7 years of experience in risk management, payments, project management, process management or a combination
At least 7 years of People Management experience
At least 5 years of Financial Industry experience
At least 2 years experience working with and influencing senior level executives
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree
At least 10 years of People Management experience
At least 8 years of risk management experience
At least 8 years payments experience
At least 8 years experience delivering strategic initiatives or directing process transformations
At least 7 years of Financial Industry experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $238,700 - $272,400 for Sr. Director, Risk ManagementCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
