Overview

Risk Associate, Corporate Insurance Team

The Corporate Insurance team works to protect Capital One by partnering with internal clients and external experts to minimize risks through execution of world-class insurance risk management strategies.

As a Risk Associate, you will be a vital supporter on the team, focusing on how we buy and manage essential insurance policies for the entire company. This is a performing role in the Operational Risk Management organization where you will gain foundational experience in corporate insurance.

You will primarily help manage critical insurance programs, especially those covering company leadership (management liability) and digital security (cyber liability). A significant part of your job also involves team support and organization, including managing the team's budget, processing insurance payments, and executing quality control activities. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Team Operations & Organization: Help keep our team organized and running smoothly. This involves maintaining essential documents and digital files (like shared drives and the intranet page), helping prepare for internal audits by enhancing quality assurance (QA) processes, and keeping our team standards up to date. You may also lead team meetings or meetings with our insurance broker

  • Financial & Budget Support: Act as a key point of contact for tracking all insurance payments and assisting with budget management. You will coordinate payment tracking with our insurance broker and finance teams

  • Claims Administration: Support the claims lead by managing the claims inbox. This includes reviewing incident reports, reporting new claims (like worker's compensation and general liability) into our system, responding to questions from claim adjusters, identifying loss trends and recommending methods of hazard remediation, and participating in periodic claim reviews

  • Project Management for Policy Renewals: Help manage the yearly renewal of major insurance policies, such as those for management liability and cyber risk. This involves tracking renewal milestones, organizing data for the insurance broker, coordinating meetings with internal partners or the insurance broker, obtaining necessary leadership approvals, and maintaining complete policy documentation

  • Insurance Documentation Management: Handle requests for official Certificates of Insurance (proof of coverage) from internal partners, ensuring they are processed and tracked quickly and accurately

We are looking for candidates who are excited to learn and grow in the field of risk management and insurance.

Characteristics Desired:

  • Strong written and spoken communication skills, including comfort with delivering basic presentations.

  • A demonstrated analytical mindset and a passion for using data to solve problems

  • Willingness to learn and apply the fundamentals of insurance and risk management is essential to success in this role. (A background in the field is preferred, but not required)

  • Resourceful, curious, and self-motivated—able to identify opportunities and take an idea from exploration through to completion

  • Exceptional teamwork and a genuine eagerness to devote time and energy to build trusting, collaborative connections across the organization

  • The ability to work independently, manage uncertainty, and prioritize multiple tasks at the same time

  • A focus on attention to detail, efficiency, and striving for flawless execution in core responsibilities

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or military experience

  • At least 1 year of experience using Google Suite or Microsoft Office

  • Prior experience working in a corporate insurance department, for an insurance broker, or as a commercial insurance underwriter
