Principal Associate, Card Partnerships and Trade Credit

The Card Partnerships and Trade Credit business offers a unique opportunity to the right Associate with its diverse product sets, consumer and commercial; interesting private label programs; varied technical platforms as well as an opportunity to serve internal and external stakeholders. As a Principal Risk Specialist on the  Partnerships Operations and Trade Credit Well Managed Services Team, you will be responsible for working with business partners, primarily across Trade Credit to identify and consult on potential risks to Capital One and provide horizontal support as requested across Partnerships Delivery, Operations and Well Managed Teams. Principal Risk Specialists at Capital One are the first line of defense to ensure our Company remains well-managed and profitable.

These skills allow the Principal Risk Specialist to gain insights, and act as a change agent to influence their business partners. A successful Principal Risk Specialist operates from a foundation of knowledge about the Line of Business with whom they are working, laws / regulations and good Risk Management practices. They are forward thinking, quick to adapt, and technologically adept. Principal Risk Specialists have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to work with Executives to create and implement innovative solutions to appropriately manage risks within the Card business.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating the risk assessment process associated with new/changing intent for assigned Card business areas

  • Develop management reporting based on risk assessments, well managed related functions

  • Coordinating and supporting the various process interactions, including meeting logistics, and facilitating collaborative meetings with 1st and 2nd line process participants, i.e., ICTT testing

  • Stay current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to your businesses 

  • Partner with business owners & data analysts to iterate and improve upon risk monitoring and reporting

  • Synthesize data and perform analysis to bring valuable business insights to the assigned Card business

  • Assess controls, and glean insights from issues and events in across business areas

  • Design, implement, and/or influence internal governance processes including operational controls

  • Connecting the dots of the changing strategic and operational priorities and risk environment and partnering with the risk advisors and business to understand the impacts & establish mitigation strategies

  • Partner with internal customers to provide strategic and tactical thought partnership to effectively drive project delivery

  • Demonstrate outstanding communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders across all levels to manage, inform, and influence outcomes

  • Supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients in many forms such as advisor, project manager, or performer

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

  • At least 1 year of risk management or compliance experience 

  • At least 2 years of project or process management experience

  • At least 2 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 2+ years of experience facilitating and conducting Risk Assessments

  • 1+ years of experience developing presentations for senior stakeholders 

  • 1+ years of experience reporting and analyzing data

  • 2+ years of financial services or risk management experience

  • 3+ years of project or process management experience

  • 3+ years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients

  • Professional certifications within risk management or assurance (Certified Risk Management Professional, Certified Internal Auditor).

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Chicago, IL: $106,700 - $121,700 for Principal Risk Specialist


McLean, VA: $117,300 - $133,900 for Principal Risk Specialist


Richmond, VA: $106,700 - $121,700 for Principal Risk Specialist









Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
