Change Manager, Project Management (Manager)

As a Change Manager in Enterprise Supplier Management (ESM), you will be a member of the ESM Chief of Staff team who supports and enables ESM’s strategic priorities through people, culture, change, and communications strategies. Specifically, this role will support change management for Discover integration as ESM brings together Capital One’s and Discover’s combined supplier base, including migrating to Capital One policies, processes and systems. The role will provide direct change management and change communications support for key business priorities including delivering supplier synergies, mitigating risk and disruption, and building our destination organization. This will include identifying, assessing, and managing delivery of changes that impact broad groups of stakeholders and end users who support third party relationships. 

The person in this role will effectively drive change management and change communications by applying their expertise, influencing skills, and ability to navigate ambiguity in an organized manner. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of strong project and change management, creating positive associate experiences, and quickly creating clarity and putting structure in place to enable leaders to drive needed results in a dynamic environment. In addition, very strong verbal & written communication and partnership skills are essential for engaging with key stakeholders to manage, inform, and influence outcomes. 

General responsibilities:

  • Build and execute strategic change management plans including executive-level communications (written & verbal) and associate experiences, and closely connected to delivery plans

  • Establish structure for & manage an evolving view of change intent in a dynamic complex environment, continually organizing and prioritizing work

  • Continually identify, develop and execute impact assessments in order to drive business decisions and outcomes

  • Create change, communication and training plans to enable business results and support a positive associate experience

  • Provide clear communication and training to stakeholders and end users, effectively leveraging a suite of communication channels - like email, Slack, live touchpoints, newsletters, Pulse pages, etc

  • Write, proofread, and edit communications needed to support strategic plans

  • Oversee development of training materials to support change initiatives

  • Work effectively in cross-functional teams to advance the team and leadership’s change strategy and implement a range of creative solutions to reach key target audiences

  • Partners with and provides tactical support to project leads and teams to define, tailor, and implement change management strategies, plans and messaging via the most appropriate channels 

  • Provide ongoing support and partnership across ESM job families to drive systems integration, including change management plans and support of testing and integration plans

  • Establish relationships and partner closely with ESM leaders and project leads to ensure change and communication plans stay in synch with organization integration intent, and broader enterprise change management

  • Implement mechanisms to support and coach people through change transition and adoption phase to maximize buy-in, reduce risk and resistance

  • Identifies and analyzes risk mitigation tactics, problem solves, and integrates solutions into the change management plan, where appropriate

  • Create and measure success metrics and monitor change progress

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience developing and executing successful change strategies in partnership with executive leaders 

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand business context as well as stakeholder and end user needs, leveraging & applying data to inform change strategies 

  • Proven ability to work effectively with multiple constituents, including peers and executive leaders; leveraging excellent partnership and influencing skills

  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills, able to present complex, subject matter in a clear, concise, and compelling manner

  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize, resulting in the ability to create clarity that advances work during ambiguity

  • Growth mindset approach, easily adaptable to change

Basic qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or military experience

  • At least 5 years of project management or process management experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in corporate communications, multi-channel marketing, internal business communications, or leading organizational change and communication projects

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6+ years of project management or process management experience

  • 6+ years of experience in corporate communications, multi-channel marketing, internal business communications, or leading organizational change and communication projects

  • 2+ years of experience in planning, execution, and analysis of communication programs

  • 2+ years of experience working with technology-oriented programs

  • Prior experience in financial services, procurement or supplier management

  • Project or Change Management certifications such as PMP, PROSCI or CCMP

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $146,100 - $166,700 for Manager, Project Management


Richmond, VA: $132,800 - $151,600 for Manager, Project Management










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
