Lead Platform Engineer

The Retail Network Technology Engineering Team is responsible for all connectivity within the Retail Bank and the contact centers that support the business. We’re looking for an experienced platform engineer who is passionate about network infrastructure, automation, and learning new technologies. This role resides within a highly motivated, fast-paced team.  A successful candidate will be a self-starter, problem solver, intellectually curious, able to work with autonomy, and a great teammate. 


The person we are looking for:

  • Has proven experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining network solutions and infrastructure with a strong understanding of networking protocols, architectures, and technologies

  • Has knowledge of scripted or automated deployment of network hardware and associated configurations

  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Has a proactive approach to identifying and addressing security vulnerabilities

  • Has superb communication skills and the ability to liaise with business partners and technical teams to coordinate efforts to achieve objectives with ease

  • Can perform off hours changes during the week

  • Values the team over self

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certification

  • At least 4 years experience with switching and routing (Cisco, Broadcom, Juniper Networks, Netgear, Aruba, etc.)

  • At least 3 years of experience with SD-WAN technologies (Versa, Aryaka, Cisco, Silver Peak, Juniper Networks, Fortinet, etc.)

  • At least 3 years of experience with Vulnerability Management and patching 

  • At least 2 years of systems integration experience

  • At least 1 year of experience with scripting languages (Python, Ansible or Shell)  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • 6+ years experience with Cisco switching and routing

  • 3+ years of  experience with scripting languages (Python, Ansible or Shell)

  • 2+ years of experience with out-of-band solutions(Lantronix, Opengear, Perle, Raritan, etc.) 

  • 2+ years of experience with firewall administration (Palo Alto, Barracuda CloudGen, Juniper SRX, SonicWall, Cisco Meraki MX, Cisco Secure, Fortinet FortiGate, etc.)

  • 2+ years of experience with automated provisioning of environments and workflows

  • 2+ years of experience in Change Management 

  • 2+ years of project lead experience

  • CCNA , CCNP, CCT, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, and Versa Certified SD-WAN Associate certifications

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $163,300 - $186,400 for Lead Platform Engineer

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
