Enterprise Product & Experience (EPX):

The Enterprise Product and Experience team brings together cross-functional experts to help drive Capital One's Enterprise product, data, design, AI, machine learning teams, and build the experience & capabilities for all our associates and developers. Together, we are working with our partners across Capital One to deliver the future of industry-defining products, platforms, and experiences for our employees and customers. 

Our Team:

We are standing up a new team, EPX Chief of Staff & Operations, to increase visibility and prioritization across EPX domains, ensure tight horizontal coordination, and care for our Product Management job family as a whole. This team will be part of the EPX Top of House organization that supports the Chief Product Officer and is able to influence at the helm of our enterprise organization. The EPX Chief of Staff & Operations team will take the leading role in defining and supporting our planning and operations practices, developing our labor and talent strategy, and caring for our community of EPX employees. The EPX Chief of Staff & Operations team will also play a key role in caring for and investing in the full Product Management job family across Capital One, for example, building our product community and engagement strategy, and shaping our product learning & development agenda.

About the Role:

As a Senior Director of EPX Planning and Operations, you will play the lead role in establishing seamless planning and operations across EPX. This will include developing, implementing, and sustaining new planning and operations mechanisms and routines, informed by leadership needs and current best practices across the organization and industry. You will operate in a dynamic environment, focusing on horizontal team coordination and driving key planning cycles and initiatives. 

This individual will be an expert in building and managing effective operating practices, organizing and facilitating large groups, ruthlessly prioritizing and setting a clear agenda for the team, and delivering on operational initiatives. You will interface across EPX teams from a variety of job families and roles, including senior executives and our Chief Product Officer, who is passionate about building out our operating practices. You must have demonstrated strong leadership proficiency, inspiring your team and partner teams to innovate, think differently, grow their careers, and produce outstanding results. 

In this role, you will act as a catalyst for change and innovation, working directly under the guidance of the EPX Chief of Staff and Operations team leader, and other top executives.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategy & organizational context: Swiftly develop a deep understanding of the EPX organization’s strategy and vision so that you can lean into complex issues and influence the operations and management of our business. Surface and develop ways of reporting on our highest-impact initiatives.

  • Product planning & operations:Don’t reuse an existing operating playbook; help us create our own. Work with key executives and partners to build efficient and effective operational processes tailored to our unique needs, including designing the mechanisms for effective annual planning cycles and monthly governance routines. 

  • Product practices & governance:Build a deep understanding of the needs of our product teams, and develop standards and best practices for local teams to leverage in their day-to-day operations. Define and implement feedback mechanisms and governance practices to ensure adoption across the EPX organization.

  • Coordination & stakeholder management: Build relationships and collaborate with stakeholders across EPX to understand processes and drive results. Aid the leadership team in driving and tracking goals and priorities, connecting the dots across multiple leaders to understand and aggregate overall impacts to the business.

  • Team leadership: Set the agenda for the EPX Planning & Operations team and lead and inspire a team of Planning & Operations employees to deliver on the agenda.

  • Presentation & facilitation: Oversee development of the metrics, communications, and presentation materials to enable effective decision-making and keep our most senior EPX executives informed on key priorities.

  • Results focus:Ability to handle multiple priorities in parallel and collaborate with all levels of the organization while working backwards from intended outcomes. Ability to take a pragmatic, outcome-driven approach from inception through implementation. 

  • People leadership: Ability to inspire, develop, and coach employees to achieve their full potential and grow their careers. 

  • Stakeholder management & influence:Ability to build strong, trusted relationships and operate in an influential manner with executives and partners to develop and execute operating practices, solutions, and strategic initiatives.

  • Presentation skills:Excellent presentation skills with meticulous attention to detail.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Military Experience

  • At least 9 years of experience in Project Management, Process Management, or Operations

  • At least 7 years of experience in people management

  • At least 3 years of experience managing executive level stakeholders 

  • At least 3 years of experience writing communications and presentations for leadership and non-leadership audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or Master’s Degree 

  • 3+ years of experience driving organizational change and operational excellence across a large number of teams in a complex organization with competing priorities, ideally in a matrix-managed environment

  • 3+ years of experience of partnering with product and engineering teams

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $234,000 - $267,100 for Sr. Director, Project Mgmt


New York, NY: $255,300 - $291,300 for Sr. Director, Project Mgmt


Richmond, VA: $212,800 - $242,800 for Sr. Director, Project Mgmt









Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
