Our Global Tax team is hiring a Senior Tax Associate within our Federal Tax Accounting and Reporting Team. This position will be responsible for preparing aspects of our Consolidated Federal Tax Return and quarterly tax provision process, as well as certain state returns.
The ideal candidate will need to be a strategic thinker with the ability to work autonomously while partnering with various teams across the department. It is essential that the successful candidate have strong communication and technological skills, the ability to multi-task and prioritize various projects at once, attention to details and a desire for problem solving.
Responsibilities:
Significant participation in the Federal tax return and provision processes, including calculating book/tax differences, preparing various reconciliations and analyses, and utilizing OneSource software to prepare tax return forms and attachments
Calculation of quarterly estimated payments and annual extensions
Identify and assist with the implementation of process/system improvements related to the return and provision processes
Timely and effectively research of Federal tax matters
Preparation of monthly forecasting deliverables
Participating in special Federal tax compliance and planning projects as needed
Assisting in the preparation of state income and franchise tax returns in numerous jurisdictions including unitary, combined and separate entities
Occasional travel
Position reports directly to the Director, Federal Tax Accounting and Reporting
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or military experience
At least two years of experience in corporate tax compliance
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a similar field of study
Master’s of Science in Tax or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification
Tax experience in a Big 4 public accounting firm or financial services environment, strongly preferred
Software experience using OneSource, Google Suite, Excel, Alteryx, BNA Fixed Assets and, Checkpoint
Strong communication, research and writing skills
The ability to multi-task, work independently, develop new ideas and take ownership of projects

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $94,600 - $107,900 for Sr. Tax SpecialistCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
