We’re looking for a strategic, forward thinking Senior Manager for our Retail Risk Office, supporting Retail Bank and Premium Products + Shopping business areas. In this role, you will use your strong leadership, communication, analytical and problem solving skills to oversee the management of a scalable first line controls governance framework. You’ll lead a team of risk management and control governance professionals accountable for this program. This talented team will act as a critical bridge between risk and business partners, helping them with controls related inquiries and provide expert guidance on new control builds as well as modernizing existing controls.
You will partner with senior leaders across the enterprise to ensure alignment with internal policies. You’ll need a well developed risk and control mindset, strong judgment, and the ability to influence priorities across the Lines of Defense teams to maintain a strong governance program while managing capacity.
An ideal candidate will possess a unique combination of strong leadership qualities including strategic planning, outstanding communication with natural problem solving and analytical skills as well as collaboration abilities. This position will require strong judgment and relationship management to understand the needs and requirements of partners across the company.
Scope and Responsibilities:
Oversees the advancement of a scalable first line controls governance framework that supports our Retail Banking and Premium Products divisions.
Helps to ensure alignment of first line controls with relevant regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices.
Partners with second and third lines of defense (Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance, Internal Audit) to ensure a cohesive and effective overall control environment.
Provide oversight and guidance to business lines on the implementation and adherence to the controls governance framework and partner to embed controls governance principles within their day-to-day operations.
Monitors the effectiveness of first line controls through regular reviews and analysis of performance data.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the first, second, and third lines of defense.
Act as a point of contact for controls related inquiries to provide expert advice and guidance on new control builds as well as modernization of existing controls.
Drive initiatives to automate and streamline control processes where appropriate.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and manage a team of controls governance professionals, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance management.
Foster a culture of risk awareness and accountability within the team and across the first line of defense.
Identify training needs and facilitate the development of control-related training programs.
Ensure the team has the necessary skills and resources to effectively execute their responsibilities.
Reporting and Governance:
Develop and present regular reports on the status of the first line control environment to senior management and relevant committees.
Contribute to the development of governance materials and presentations related to first line controls.
Ensure adherence to all relevant regulatory reporting requirements related to controls.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or military experience
At least 5 years of Risk Management Experience
At least 4 years of Project Management experience
At least 4 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree
5+ years of Project Management experience leading cross functional projects and programs in Risk
5+ years of Financial Services risk management experience
3+ years of experience in Data Analysis
3+ years of people management experience
Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM)
Lean, Agile, Six Sigma or Business Process Management
PMP Certification or Masters Certificate of Project Management (CPM)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $170,800 - $194,900 for Sr. Risk ManagerCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
