Capital One’s Governance, Valuations, & Innovation (GV&I) Team is a second line of defense function housed within the Credit Risk & Analytics (CR&A) Division. CR&A is responsible for Risk Governance, Risk Appetite, Credit Risk Policy, and Assurance Exam Management activities for the Commercial Bank. The team’s contribution is critical in providing a foundation for sound risk management practices, complying with internal policies and regulations, and exhibiting the overall culture of Capital One.
Role Description
GV&I is seeking a Manager-level Associate with experience in regulatory compliance and credit risk to play a critical role within the Commercial Bank. This is a high-impact position focused on enhancing risk governance, advising senior stakeholders, and driving strategic, transformative change across our Commercial Credit and Counterparty Credit functions, particularly with the integration of the Global Payment Network (GPN) via the Discover Financial Services acquisition. This role offers significant professional growth and exposure to senior management.
GV&I is responsible for a broad set of risk management activities for the Commercial Bank and within Commercial Credit and Counterparty Credit risk governance. This opportunity provides for significant professional growth and exposure to senior management. As an integral member of the GV&I team, the Manager will be responsible for applying innovative risk management skills to shape policy and governance. The successful candidate will own the Counterparty Credit and GPN relationship and serve as a trusted advisor including developing the policy and governance coverage model for the GPN during the post-acquisition integration process. Essential to succeeding in this role are strong project management experience, innovative thinking, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
Specific responsibilities include:
Execute and manage GV&I’s policy and governance coverage model for Counterparty Credit and the GPN
Provide oversight and effective challenge of policies to lead policy lifecycle management for Counterparty Credit Risk, and Corporate Banking as needed
Provide critical regulatory and credit policy input to partners across the Counterparty Credit and Corporate Banking to understand transaction risk profiles and policy adherence
Influence stakeholders by communicating the objective for good risk governance practices and its impact to the business
Lead and manage change initiatives to enhance risk governance, controls, and processes, across Commercial and Counterparty by collaborating with all lines of defense, and our Product and Tech partners to maximize the use of technology tools for efficiency and transformation
Experience in risk or policy framework development, enhancement, or process improvement
Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple complex projects and deliverables simultaneously
Strategic and analytic orientation - a proven track record of decision making and problem-solving based on available data
Solid analytical, research, and investigative skills (e.g., researching laws/regulations, internal policies)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skill
Aptitude for synthesizing complex issues into clear and concise executive-level summaries and presentation materials
Proactive, results-oriented, and an independent problem-solver with the ability to navigate ambiguity
Ability to establish credibility and trust with senior stakeholders across all levels of the organization
Willingness to learn, adapt easily to change, and comfortable challenging the status quo
Solid understanding of Commercial Banking products and services
Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
At least 4 years of experience in risk management or compliance at a financial institution, consulting firm, or regulatory agency
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Juris Doctorate Degree or other related advanced degree
5+ years of experience in credit risk management or compliance at a financial institution, consulting firm, or regulatory agency
Familiarity with Commercial Credit, Counterparty Credit, and Global Payment Network policies and regulations

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Chicago, IL: $132,800 - $151,600 for Risk ManagerCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
