This position will drive execution of strategies for managing the portfolio of law firms supporting the Capital One Legal Department. In this capacity, the candidate will collaborate with internal and external parties at all levels and manage multiple projects simultaneously. The individual will deliver governance of the outside counsel management program, including tracking legal spend and pricing, law firm staffing, performance and other metrics, as well as helping to implement a well-managed strategy for engagement and management of outside counsel. This role requires cross-functional coordination to ensure alignment with both departmental and company objectives. This position is also responsible for identifying risks and enhancement opportunities, supporting the development and improvement of processes and controls, and providing training as necessary.
Responsibilities:
Formulate and recommend solutions and improvements designed to enhance the program and align with overall company strategy and industry best practices
Develop and disseminate reporting and data analysis to optimize outside counsel spend and performance, and perform spend and budget data analysis, as appropriate
Prepare and deliver presentations and reporting to Accountable Executives on third party oversight and governance-related topics
Develop strategies, provide recommendations, and implement metrics to track supplier performance, risk, and industry benchmarking
Deliver audit requests and provide project management support to Legal Department projects as needed
Contribute to enhancing Legal’s operational effectiveness by identifying new processes, best practices, and technology system enhancements
Develop and maintain training materials, process documentation, and other resources related to outside counsel management processes, ensuring that Legal Department individuals and business associates are appropriately trained and adhering to process expectations
Collaborate with Enterprise Supplier Management (ESM) to ensure execution of Third Party Management requirements for Legal suppliers
Cross-functionally partner with Legal partners to support effective operations on third party oversight-related deliverables
Manage multiple tasks independently to meet deadlines
Ensure data accuracy across multiple systems and reports
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
At least 3 years of experience in legal operations, supplier management, law firm administration, project management, process management or risk management
At least 1 year of experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or Google Suite
At least 2 years of experience in developing presentation or reporting materials
Preferred Qualifications:
4+ years of legal operations, supplier management, law firm administration, project management, process management or risk management
1+ year of experience working with Tableau or other data visualization tools
2+ years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients
Strong knowledge of legal operations functions, including legal technology, spend management and process improvement
Experience working with legal technology platforms (e-billing, matter management, workflow automation)
Relevant risk, process, or program management certification(s)
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills at all levels, including when working with sensitive and confidential matters
Ability to multi-task accurately, while demonstrating flexibility with changing priorities

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Risk SpecialistCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
