Manager, Project Management - Product Operations: People Excellence (Culture) & Governance

Capital One's Finance Product and Data Solutions (FPDS) organization is embedded within Global Finance. Finance Product manages a portfolio of products that support Capital One's broader Finance organization and the enterprise at large, transforming the way we do business and support business-critical capabilities.

Embedded within Finance Product, our high-impact Product Operations team drives initiatives that align with business needs and support the ongoing success of our Product team. The People Excellence & Governance group cultivates a 'One Team' culture and operates horizontally across Finance Product. We define governance, manage communications, and develop operational frameworks that evolve alongside our business needs.

Role Summary

We are seeking an innovative, bold project management leader who takes ownership of outcomes, navigates ambiguity, and effectively collaborates with diverse stakeholders across varying priorities. As a manager at Capital One, you can achieve results you never thought possible by leading critical and strategic business projects. Workstreams may include:

People Excellence & Culture

  • Design and manage engagement initiatives that reflect our values and promote associate well-being, such as planning and executing team-wide events and off site events, promoting recognition programs that celebrate accomplishments and cultural contributions.

  • Leverage associate feedback to iterate on culture and engagement strategies, track program impact to drive continuous improvement, and proactively identify opportunities to support the growth and development of our teams.

Governance

  • Develop a governance framework with standardized practices for how application systems are configured and create a configuration center of excellence in partnership with product management, technology, data, and business partners.

  • Manage and maintain best practices for 3rd party vendor engagement including documentation and process flow mapping.

  • Establish standardized reporting for application system business and technical SLAs that are utilized consistently and effectively across teams for performance measurement and risk management.

  • Provide ongoing management for an evolving OKR framework and progress reporting across all Product teams to maintain focus on priorities and to align and connect workstreams across multiple teams.

  • Apply continuous improvement strategies for operating rhythms that support the balance of effective management of recurring work and unlocking creativity and innovation.

Key Responsibilities :

Project Management 

  • End-to-End Execution: Manage strategic initiatives through the full project lifecycle, from planning and design to execution and closure. Own project architecture, status reporting, and documentation, ensuring rigorous adherence to scope, budget, and timelines. 

  • Outcome Accountability:Lead project delivery, ensuring all activities and artifacts align with the project’s original intent and business objectives. Proactively identify project or operational risks, outline mitigation strategies, and manage upstream/downstream dependencies to prevent roadblocks. 

Operational Efficiency & Effectiveness

  • Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate and streamline operational frameworks and business processes to improve efficiency. Develop high-level process mapping and documentation with socialization for buy-in and understanding from all key stakeholders.

  • Champion Improvement: Lead change management and create rollout strategies for new or evolving processes.

  • Data-Informed Decision Making: Leverage data for analytical insights to resolve complex issues, inform strategy, and guide tradeoff decisions.

  • Champion, develop, and continuously improve governance frameworks with organizational and cross-functional partners

Stakeholder Engagement & Executive Communication

  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Foster a "One Team" environment, driving collaboration and accountability across diverse stakeholder groups.

  • Strategic Communication: Deliver clear, concise status updates and recommendations to senior leadership, ensuring transparency on project health and strategic direction.

  • Influence & Advising: Serve as a strategic partner to internal teams, applying sound judgment to navigate ambiguity and influence positive outcomes.

  • Strong project execution & organization: Proven ability to manage multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously, with a track record of building effective structure to manage scope, timelines, and budgets.

  • Exceptional communication & partnership: A confident facilitator who builds trust-based relationships across all levels, effectively interacting with stakeholders to inform and influence outcomes.

  • Adaptive problem solving: Demonstrated organizational agility and creative thinking to navigate ambiguity, mitigate roadblocks, and streamline processes.

  • Cultural leadership: Passionate about the associate experience and fostering a "people-first" culture, bringing energy, empathy, and a growth mindset to the team.

  • Results-driven mindset: Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a consistent commitment to delivering high-quality, impactful results.

  • Demonstrated organizational agility and the ability to comfortably adapt to changing demands

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience

  • At least 4 years of end-to-end Program Management, Project Management, or Product Management experience leading cross-functional strategic or technical initiatives

  • At least 2 years of experience working with process improvements in the PDLC (Product Development Life Cycle) or SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle)

  • At least 2 years of experience working within Agile frameworks and methodologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or MBA

  • 5+ years of Program Management or Project Management in an enterprise or Fortune 500 company

  • 2+ years of experience in Product Operations

  • 2+ years of experience in leading cross-functional teams within an enterprise organization

  • 2+ years of experience in Process Management 

  • PMP (Project Management Professional), Lean, Agile, Six Sigma or Prosci Change Management certification

  • 2+ years of change management experience 

  • 1+ years of financial services experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Cambridge, MA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Manager, Project Management


McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Manager, Project Management


Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Manager, Project Management









Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
