The Cloud Operations & Resilience Engineering (CORE) Technology division sits at the center of Capital One’s technology strategy. CORE is responsible for enabling and evolving our foundational cloud infrastructure—spanning observability, connectivity, resilience, and availability. Operating at enterprise scale, the CORE Leadership Team sets the strategic vision, engineering standards, and operational governance required to keep our systems secure and continuously available.
As a member of CORE’s Top of House team, you will work with CORE’s Divisional CIO and Product leader to shape and communicate CORE’s technology and business strategy to customers. This role will also support the continuous elevation of CORE’s organizational strategy and operational excellence.
The successful candidate for this role brings a strong foundation in corporate strategy or top-tier management consulting, with experience developing visionary strategies. Prior experience in technology and/or digital topics (e.g., software development, cyber, data, digital customer experiences, tech talent transformation) is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a strategic thought partner to CORE executive tech and product leadership; work with them to define and execute on the organization’s strategic direction.
Design go-to-market approach and enable CORE leadership to share CORE’s strategy with key customers and stakeholders (Cyber, CardTech, Bank Tech, AI/ML teams, etc.); ensure content effectively aligns stakeholders around strategy and progress roadmap.
Plan content and shape agendas for CORE leader strategy forums and discussions, ensuring they effectively engage and orient the organization to drive progress on critical areas.
Drive content development and preparation for critical communication forums and rhythms (e.g., Quarterly Business reviews, Quarterly Risk Reviews), ensuring high-quality engagement and decision-making.
Support in defining organizational strategy to meet dynamic business and technology needs, including communicating and cascading organizational changes.
Identify and integrate AI tools to improve strategic planning, operational effectiveness, and efficiency in how we run CORE as a business.
Skills / Competencies Needed:
Strong business judgement, leadership, and integrity; high EQ and collaborative team player who can drive consensus and build trusted relationships.
Strong executive written and oral communication skills, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
Ability to translate complex technical topics into strategic business narratives for Product and Tech stakeholders.
Proven success managing multiple complex projects, dependencies, and risks concurrently.
Comfort navigating ambiguity, finding leverage, and scaling operational solutions.
Adaptability to operate effectively both behind the scenes and in high-visibility settings.
Facilitation, negotiation and mediation skills; ability to drive to consensus / decisions
Strong project management and organizational skills
Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment; Previous consulting experience is preferred.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
At least 4 years of experience performing quantitative analysis
At least 4 years of experience performing qualitative analysis
At least 2 years of experience performing project management
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree
2+ years of experience in financial services
1+ year of experience in consulting

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $230,400 - $263,000 for Business DirectorCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
