The Enterprise Services Business Risk Office provides risk management support to several lines of business including: Tech, Digital, Brand, Enterprise Supplier Management, Capital One Ventures, External Affairs, Capital One Software (COS) and Enterprise AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning). As a Principal Risk Associate in Technology, you need to be a highly motivated Risk Management professional with excellent organizational and communication skills with a passion and  innovation to drive solutions for mitigating potential risks to the Company.

In this role, You will partner with colleagues across ML product, design and tech to deliver results that have a direct impact on customer experience and implement risk solutions to ensure Capital One’s continued stability and success. Responsibilities require partnering with a broad set of leaders and stakeholders to identify existing and potential emerging risks in an open, collaborative environment where new ideas and solutions are both welcomed and rewarded. You will play a critical role in driving visibility to Risk Management governance and reporting. This role requires someone who pays close attention to the details, has strong communication skills, and someone with the confidence to challenge the status quo and drive step change improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Support ML platform teams with identifying risks, issues and events and create mitigate plan and driving execution of the mitigation plans

  • Communicate risk and governance standards to ML platform teams and educating the teams on the importance of these requirements to drive Well Managed practices

  • Support the development of risk management and reporting to drive meaningful conversations, accountability and awareness

  • Participate in risk/controls forums and contribute to continuous improvement of risk management practices and processes

  • Collaborate effectively with all lines of defense (testing, effective challenge and audit)

  • Provide oversight and guidance during risk/controls assessments (PLA, CBP, ARA, etc.)

  • Facilitate a proactive approach to ML risk posture and cultivate relationships cross-functionally 

  • Deliver ad hoc requests to support broader deliverables for the ML leadership and platform teams, as needed

  • Analyze information to proactively identify risks, trends, and process improvements 

  • Support and align timely delivery of regular monthly, quarterly and semi-annual deliverables, including research and preparation of content, reviews and approvals before delivery

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in Risk Management, Cloud Risk Management, Process Management, Project Management, or a combination of these

  • At least 2 years of experience in Technology, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, or Machine Learning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of experience in risk management or technology risk management

  • At least 5 years of experience in project, program, or portfolio management

  • Knowledge of appropriate controls to secure cloud-based services (SaaS) products

  • Risk Certifications (CRISC, CISM, CRCM, CIPP, ABA Risk Mgmt Certification)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $127,500 - $145,500 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Risk & Analysis


Richmond, VA: $115,900 - $132,200 for Prin Assoc, Cyber Risk & Analysis










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
