Driving change through data at Capital One
When Emma began work as a data engineer for Capital One’s Navigator Platform team, she saw an opportunity to make data work harder and faster for thousands of auto dealer partners. Her team’s goal? Modernize a system powering Insights Navigator, a data-driven tool that helps auto dealers make better and quicker business decisions.
Previously, a single data load could take hours to complete. Emma led the transition of this data pipeline to a new cloud-based system, which led to the ability to handle more data jobs in a well-managed way.
“After the upgrade, everything ran smoother and faster,” Emma said. “We went from waiting hours to seeing results in just a few seconds.”
Turning real-time data into real change
Building these kinds of real-time systems for millions of customers requires a blend of cutting-edge tech and an innovation-first mindset. In Dallas, data engineering teams like Emma’s are doing more than just moving information—they’re designing the backbone of a modernized financial ecosystem. It’s a space where curiosity is encouraged and where every line of code matters.
This focus on speed and precision means real impact for users. Because of the modernized pipelines Emma’s team built, auto dealers can now access up-to-date insights on market trends and inventory performance, allowing them to make critical business decisions with certainty.
Today, Emma and her team continue to push the boundaries of efficiency using a cloud-native stack featuring technologies like Kafka, Flink and Snowflake. It’s the kind of engineering that makes life smoother and more manageable for the end user.

A modern tech stack built for innovative solutions
This same passion for high-impact engineering is what drives Narendran, a director of data engineering and analytics in Dallas. For him, the turning point was realizing that data engineering could shape the backbone of an entire business.
“We’re not just writing pipelines,” he said. “We’re designing data products and building real-time systems that ultimately shape how the business operates.”
Narendran led the development of a data product that powers millions of vehicle records. That system enables real-time vehicle information for customers and inventory tools for auto dealers, helping both sides make smarter decisions.
Behind the scenes, his teams use a modern tech stack with technologies like Kafka, Spark, Flink, GraphQL, Snowflake and AWS to design products that process massive amounts of data securely and efficiently.
“Engineers here get energized when they see how their work connects to real outcomes,” he said. “That’s what makes working at Capital One meaningful.”

A culture built for curiosity
Across their experiences at Capital One, Emma and Narendran share one common thread: growth through curiosity. They describe a culture where data engineers are empowered to experiment, learn and make an impact.
They’ve found that being a data engineer at Capital One means working in a space where innovation and collaboration go hand in hand, and where the teams can still work nimbly.
“The Dallas office is a vibrant hub,” Narendran said. “There’s a friendly and collaborative atmosphere, a diverse environment that blends innovation and impact.”
