About the role
We’re the Market Experience Design team, embedded within the larger Capital One Consumer Bank Design organization. Our team is focused on in-person experiences, reimagining the services and interactions we offer at our bank branches and café spaces. We are a humble but driven team that cares deeply about our customers and our colleagues.
For this role, we're looking for a designer who can bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds. You'll have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects targeted for Capital One cafés and branches. Some examples of projects include creating experiences for our large, interactive screens and designing physical/digital installations to celebrate special occasions, feature product launches, and raise awareness of Capital One’s values.

You're known for always having side projects outside of work. You can’t help it. You’re passionate about a lot of different topics and are always looking to learn more. You've probably attended (and won prizes at) hackathons before.
Your friends and family reach out to you for help with everything... They call on you when their Apple TV isn't mirroring, when the dimmer in their living room doesn't work, when they can't figure out how to move their old photos onto their new phone, and when their cat has a fever. The obscurity of the topic doesn't matter -- they know they can count on you to figure it out.
You'll think about the team, the product, and the customer as all a part of your own business; it needs a purpose -- whether to solve a problem, entertain, educate, or delight -- and you'll measure its performance against these goals. You don't wait for the next order to be issued. You know how to prioritize efforts, build just enough, and test to learn and iterate.
You don’t believe in making something just because it’s cool. You consider its purpose, its context, and its impact on both the end-to-end user experience and the business. You start with user needs, then round out your perspective with industry research and stakeholder interviews. You design scalable, perennial experiences, not one-offs. You seek opportunities to build the case for where the team needs to move next in order to bring the greatest impact.
Team Player and Project Leader
You’re equal parts individual contributor and project leader. You love getting into the details of the work, but always circle back to make sure the whole team is on board before making big decisions. You’re always looking to develop your skills and happy to mentor others. You understand the importance of building alignment with stakeholders and business partners and have experience doing this in complicated organizations.
At least 4 years of experience designing integrated physical and digital experiences
At least 4 years of experience within Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Interaction Design or Exhibit Design
Experience in retail or exhibit design
At least 4 years of experience launching services and experiences
