Director, Software Engineering (Enterprise Data Platforms - Data Creation)
As a Capital One Director of Software Engineering, you'll work on everything from customer-facing web applications to highly scalable distributed data platforms using cutting-edge open source frameworks, to highly-available RESTful microservices, to back-end Java/python based systems using the hottest techniques in Big Data. You'll bring solid experience in emerging and traditional technologies such as: node.js, React, Java, Python, REST, Spark/EMR, Glue,NoSQL/Relational databases, and AWS/Cloud Infrastructure to name a few. In this role you will have an opportunity to implement highly scalable solutions that spawn across millions of files and thousands of data stores across hundreds of AWS accounts.
Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product focused software engineers
Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team.
Work with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios - Continuously improve software engineering practices
Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack development tools and technologies
Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions
Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community
Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity
Work across to improve the velocity of your and other teams
Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments
Break existing monolithic applications into micro service architectures and build new microservices
At least 7 years of experience in software or data engineering
At least 5 years of experience in people management
At least 5 years of building distributed applications on AWS cloud
At least 3 years of full stack engineering experience (UI, API and Distributed Applications)
8+ years of experience in software engineering
5+ years of Big data engineering tools (Spark, EMR, Glue, ETL)
5+ years of experience in Agile practices
5+ years of experience building full stack softwares with UX and micro services
5+ experience using AWS serverless technologies
Prior hands on experience coding in Node, Java, Python or Spark

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
San Francisco, California (Hybrid On-Site): $285,400 - $325,700 for Director, Software Engineering
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
