Capital One Business Deals, formerly Capital One Spring, is a best in class deals program designed and curated to support Small Businesses. We level the playing field for all small businesses who lack the scale or expertise needed to get great deals. Our team of procurement professionals negotiates market-leading discounts with merchants, then provides those deals for free to every small business via our website and on EASE.

Business Deals is a rapidly growing digital product, with over 1.5 million users and over 150 best-in-class deals. Our team operates like a start-up within Capital One, with close collaboration between Product, Partnerships, and Marketing and while benefiting from the brand, experience, and expertise of our larger company. 

We sit within EMB (Emerging Merchant Businesses) alongside accelerator projects, such as Capital One Shopping and Apollo. EMB is reimagining the future of commerce and making Capital One the place for merchants who want to grow their customer base. Our vision is to become the launching pad for Capital One’s next billion-dollar businesses. Our mission is to WOW our associates, customers, and merchant partners with unexpected experiences.

As the Senior Manager, Business Development you will lead the team responsible for identifying, engaging, and contracting with the Merchant partners that offer compelling deals on services and supplies offered on the Capital One Business Deals website. 

General Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Ability to develop and champion new strategies that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success; build targeted insights to inform the design and development of new merchant opportunities

  • People Leadership:  Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise; manage and develop multiple Business Development Managers, coaching and mentoring associates with a goal of developing and retaining talent; foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold associates accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results

  • Execution:  Manage and sequence delivery of business intent, build business requirements and execute against the strategy, oversee multiple projects and programs concurrently 

  • Partnership:  Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including:  Marketing, Product, IT, Operations, Finance and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability  

  • Analytic Orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation

  • Strong Business Judgment: Able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business development and improvement

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills 

  • Clear Results Orientation: Possess an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals and be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment 

  • Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in Business Development

  • At least 3 years of People Management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in Business Development

  • 5+ years of experience managing a Business Development team

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Location is New York City

- $188,814 and $222,758 for Sr. Mgr, Business Development

Location is Colorado

- $159,978 and $188,738 for Sr. Mgr, Business Development

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
