Capital One Legal is seeking motivated attorneys to participate in its Legal FlexPert program. This program is designed to provide attorneys new to Capital One or new to Capital One Legal a wide array of experiences within various groups within the Capital One Legal Department. Over the course of the Flexpert program, the associate will have the opportunity to build working relationships with legal professionals in several different groups within the department, as well as the business groups they support. This is an invaluable experience for an attorney looking to broaden their experiences, their skills, and their knowledge of Capital One and its various legal needs.
The FlexPert program is designed with the expectation that the associate will stay in this role for approximately 2 years, with no firm threshold on either end. The FlexPert associate will serve a similar role to many of the attorney secondees that our department uses on a regular basis. Oftentimes, various groups in Legal require a temporary attorney resource to fit a short-term need for a significant project or other need. This role will serve to meet some of those needs.
It is expected that the FlexPert associate will support numerous groups during their tenure in the program. Our expectation is that the associate will take on one assignment at a time, and each assignment will last 3-6 months. The FlexPert program will intake assignment requests from any group in Legal that has a temporary attorney need. Those requests will be thoroughly vetted and each assignment for the FlexPert associate will be carefully chosen. The assignments given to this associate are not expected to require an in-depth knowledge of any particular area of law. The assignments will be appropriate for a driven and competent attorney who will be able to learn any specific expertise needed on the job.
During the program, the Legal Department will offer targeted training, mentoring, and development opportunities to the Experts to assist them in adapting to Capital One and the Legal Department’s mission and culture.
At the conclusion of the program, it is the Legal Department’s expectation that the Flexpert will find a permanent position within the Legal Department -- either within one of the FlexPert’s previous destinations, or elsewhere within the Legal Department.
- Provide attorney support to various groups across the Legal Department
- Potential to perform a wide variety of attorney tasks
- Perform assignments ranging from 3-6 months in duration
- Understand customer needs and provide appropriate solutions to achieve desired outcome
- Build relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders
- Ensure project deliverables and timelines are met
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
- At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency
- 5+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department and/or government agency doing work related to the financial service industry
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and flexibility to adapt to changing needs
- Ability and desire to learn new areas of law
- Ability and willingness to work as a team player
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
