Product Manager, Card Core Platforms

The Capital One Card Core Platform Team is looking for an exceptional Product Manager who will help define and execute our Core platform modernization strategy:

  • Contribute to the product vision for capabilities that deliver breakthrough business value and make it easy for our internal consumers to access, use, and build on Core data.

  • Establish and maintain product roadmaps and an agile delivery operational structure in partnership with Tech that is efficient, transparent, and flexible. 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships and feedback loops with senior business intent and downstream stakeholders across the enterprise who manage the product/credit strategy, downstream processes,  technology, controls, and customer-facing experiences that depend on the capabilities and performance of the Core platform.

As a Product Manager you will work with architects, data scientists, service designers, process engineers and developers to translate human insights, dependent platform, app, and segment needs, downstream user feedback, and technology capabilities into scalable, resilient, and efficient consumer-centric services.  You will develop end-to-end solutions to help us better serve Card customers.

General areas of responsibility: 

  • You will be involved in shaping and contributing to the overall Card customer experience and enablement of Capital One’s platform ecosystem by seeking and applying insights from dependent platforms, apps, and segments - moving from concepts to prototypes and prototypes to scalable solutions.

  • You will develop hypotheses, build MVPs, and run pilots determining product, feature, and capability fit and value.

  • You will be a part of overall thought leadership around platform development at the intersection of data+design+tech = for the sake of creating meaningful, measurable business and customer value.

  • You will collaborate with an extended team beyond the card platform organization

  • You will lead a team of product owners who will work hand-in-hand with development teams that are your solutioning and delivery partners for bringing the roadmap to life and value to fruition.

  • You will provide direct Product leadership to development teams, drive day-to-day prioritization of work, troubleshoot reported issues, and oversee releases

  • You will be breaking down business epics into features and further into user stories

  • You will be Writing acceptance criteria and lead the grooming efforts with the Agile team

  • You have the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously

Qualities and characteristics to be successful in this role: 

  • Strategic: You are comfortable navigating between the big ideas and executional realities to create an achievable plan that drives progression and tangible value creation

  • Analytical: You have strong analytical skills, ability to solve problems quickly, identify patterns and assess opportunities.  You’re able  to develop business case for MVP as well as ongoing development that justifies the investments we make in building and maintain Core platform capabilities (ROI mindset) 

  • Articulate: You have strong verbal and written communication skills, and are comfortable presenting and tailoring communications to multiple audiences. You can communicate complex ideas clearly, both the why and the what. Your manager, senior leaders, and other stakeholders who are not involved day-to-day understand the purpose and the plan. 

  • Leadership: You have knowledge, passion and practical experience leading engineering teams in digital technologies. You are able to get people of different disciplines to pull together in the same direction against an understood goal. You establish and maintain a high level of credibility with stakeholders. You are also able to coach others and be a mentor in product development. 

  • Open-minded: You have your own perspective and methodology. But this does not prevent you from trying new things. Ultimately you are curious and believe in continual learning and evolution.

  • Action-Oriented: You have an urgency to progress, you try things, and sometimes you fail. But you apply those learning to move forward

  • Fearless: Big, undefined problems don't frighten you. You have a high level of intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity. You can work at a tiny crack until you've broken open the whole nut 

Experience & Expertise

  • Experience creating a framework for concept exploration, product prototyping, iteration and deprecation 

  • Leading research and applying research insights throughout the product development process utilizing human centered design and/or “Design Thinking” 

  • Experience weaving together user benefits, business strategy and technology into a comprehensive platform capability strategy (strategy, execution plan, metrics for success) 

  • Ability to collaborate closely with architects, designers and engineers to create platform products 

  • Adept at applying Agile development philosophy and practices to deliver top-tier delivery transparency, efficiency, and flexibility

  • Passion for holistic experience design that incorporates usability and utility 

  • Effective communication skills throughout the process: driving a project forward, evangelizing value, executive summaries 

  • Collaborative, team player attitude (confidence without attitude) 

  • Startup experience and/or some time at a well-oiled large company in a role working with technology products with accountability to managing delivery across multiple development teams

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in digital product management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s degree

  • 3+ years of experience translating business strategy and analysis into consumer facing digital products

  • 3+ years of experience in Agile product management
