Legal Specialist Associate - Card Legal

Job Description

The Legal Department’s Card Legal team is seeking an Associate to support a team of attorneys and legal specialists who advise Capital One's various lines of business on their loss mitigation objectives. The Associate will perform a broad range of task and project-oriented support, including review and research of internal and external loss mitigation related issues.  

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Manage Legal Matter intake process for various lines of business

  • Research, document, and resolve a wide variety of requests using independent judgment

  • Independently manage workload in an efficient manner

  • Identify and solve issues within scope and escalate to management when appropriate

  • Actively support and comply with team and department objectives

  • Assist with team administrative functions, special projects, and reporting

  • Work with management to identify and execute process improvements

  • May be trained to support multiple processes 

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • The ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple, simultaneous deadlines 

  • Sound judgment 

  • The ability to work both independently and as a team

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Proficiency in Google Suite

  • Ability to learn and navigate multiple platforms

Basic Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification

  • At least 1 year of experience in project management

  • At least 1 year of experience in administrative support

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience

  • Project management certification

  • 2 years of experience in project management

  • 1 year of experience in a law firm or legal department 

  • Paralegal certification
