Senior Design Operations Program Manager

We are currently seeking a senior manager for design program operations to join our team. We are passionate about keeping our research, strategy & design systems team at top of house well managed so that they can deliver world-class support to our design and product partners.

In this role, you will lead and build a portfolio level process, team and view for our research, strategy and design systems team. You’ll partner closely with the senior leaders to drive objectives forward and create a space for designers and researchers to thrive. 

What You’ll Do:

You’ll be asked to handle a variety of responsibilities, including: 


Portfolio Strategy:

  • Create and maintain a holistic view of the work happening on the teams in order to make connections, identify opportunities, and ensure alignment to strategic priorities

  • Drive momentum by advising on team direction and alignment, leading special project planning as needed

  • Advocate for the prioritization of initiatives that serve our customers and drive business and design objectives

  • Mastery of complex facilitation and dependency management techniques (cross team, cross department)

  • Partner with team leads to assess, identify and improve work intake, scoping, planning, tracking & management at a project-aggregate view

  • Drive delivery and continuous improvement by utilizing feedback and metrics (quality, delivery rate, etc.) to identify areas of opportunity

  • Understands domain architecture and targets to identify upstream/downstream dependencies and to support the program in risk management

  • Provide regular and open communication across the program and stakeholders for transparency and awareness of progress and impediments

Execution of Work:

  • Collaborate with leads in the research, strategy and systems space to identify and execute best practices for planning, scoping & managing projects at a program-level view 

  • Lead effective program level planning routines, such as initiative refinement and PI planning.

  • Help establish governance structures where decision-making is weighted toward empowered teams.

  • Support issue resolution and risk mitigation, escalating to leadership  groups, as needed.

  • Prioritize impediments and risk mitigations based on impacts across multiple stakeholders.

Operations: 

  • Collaborate with peer partners and the Head of design to improve shared systems, processes, and rituals for the org at large 

  • Support and socialize those systems, processes, and rituals within your portfolio team

  • Identify best practices and create documentation, templates, and resources

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience with program management, project management, or scrum project management 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple large teams and bodies of work
  • Familiarity working with design or creative teams
  • Familiarity with agile principles, project management methodologies and tools
