Capital One’s Financial Services (“FS”) Division is a leader and pioneer in the auto-finance industry. Capital One strives to bring tech-focused, innovative solutions to the auto industry from car buying to loan servicing and beyond with a mission-focused approach. To support this expanding business, the FS Legal Team seeks to add an additional Senior Counsel to serve as business counsel and join our fantastic team. Experience in a particular industry or type of practice is not required for this role, only a willingness and excitement to learn something new. We are looking for strong candidates that are excited for a new challenge in a highly collaborative environment with a supportive and engaged legal team.
As a Senior Counsel, you will work hand-in-hand with the business teams as they look to solve a variety of complex and unique problems and pain points in the industry. In this role, you will help to identify risks and problem solve alongside a team of world-class professionals. You will meaningfully participate in building innovative digital products and services. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Providing strategic legal advice on a variety of complex issues and topics
Translating laws, regulations, and legal requirements into clear and focused guardrails
Building relationships and collaborating with business stakeholders in wide-ranging roles
Understanding business needs and providing appropriate solutions to reach the desired goals
Working collaboratively with other members of the Legal Department to provide advice in a consistent, well-reasoned manner
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
At least 5 years of experience in a law firm environment or as in-house counsel for a Fortune 500 company
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to influence others
Ability to work effectively both in teams and independently, make effective and integrated decisions, and collaborate effectively with company associates at all levels
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience in advising financial-services (banking, mortgage, or auto-finance) or technology companies in regulatory or product development matters may be helpful but is not required
