Commercial Bank – Commercial Data Science Team As Commercial Bank’s data science team. We work to improve the way commercial banking is done through the use of innovative data and model-driven solutions. The lines of business we support include commercial real estate, credit lending, treasury management, commercial card, and B2B payments within the $20MM+ revenue corporate and commercial real estate sectors. Typical use cases include real-time credit assessment of corporate and CRE through non-traditional datasets, macroeconomic predictions and insight generation, deposit balance and attrition prediction and forecasting, optimal pricing strategies, and portfolio credit risk assessment.
In this role, you will:
Become a key player in empowering commercial lending with the ability to provide their borrowers with data, statistical, and model driven insights.
Build robust pipelines that transform billions of data points into lasting metrics and analysis at scale.
Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver products customers love
Leverage a broad stack of technologies — Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and more — to reveal the insights hidden within huge volumes of numeric and textual data
Flex your interpersonal skills to translate the complexity of your work into tangible business goals
Mine for real time insights hidden in large internal and external datasets that have time and geospatial components to help Capital One and our customers make crucial business decisions.
The Ideal Candidate is:
Creative. You thrive on bringing definition to big, undefined problems. You love asking questions and pushing hard to find answers. You’re not afraid to share a new idea.
Technical. You have hands-on experience developing and maintaining robust pipelines that back data science solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.
Statistically-minded. Being either a Frequentist or Bayesian or both, you think statistically and bring rigor to analyses and ensure the correct conclusions are acted upon.
A data guru. “Big data” doesn’t faze you. You have the skills to retrieve, combine, and analyze data from a variety of sources and structures. You know understanding the data is often the key to great data science.
Bachelor’s Degree plus 5 years of experience in data analytics, or Master’s Degree plus 3 years in data analytics
At least 1 year of experience in open source programming languages for large scale data analysis
At least 1 year of experience with machine learning
At least 1 year of experience with relational databases
Master’s Degree in “STEM” field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) plus 3 years of experience in data analytics
At least 1 year of experience working with AWS
At least 3 years’ experience in Python
At least 3 years’ experience with machine learning
At least 3 years’ experience with SQL

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
New York City: $156,595 - $184,748 for DS PhD
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.No agencies please.
