At Capital One, you'll be part of a big group of makers, breakers, doers and disruptors, who solve real problems and meet real customer needs.  We are seeking Managers who are passionate about leading teams, processing big data with emerging technologies and creating low latency microservices that drive our products.  As a Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to be on the forefront of driving a major transformation within Capital One. 

We are part of Capital One’s Enterprise Risk Management. We build microservices to automate and integrate the full lifecycle of anti money laundering screening and alerts management that are consumed by the real-time AML screening API’s used across the organization.  Our team is in the process of transforming our products to leverage the next generation of data streaming to drive processing and provide continuous services using the most sophisticated cloud services available. Since we follow Capital One’s ‘YBYO’ (You build , you own), each team has an opportunity to influence, build , enhance and maintain their software. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions in backend stack development tools and technologies

  • Collaborate with and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions to move, process, and transform large amounts of data using the latest open source technologies ideally suited for these tasks.

  • Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community

  • Collaborate with digital product managers, and deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences to help millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment

  • Utilize programming languages like Java, Scala, Python, Golang, Spark, SQL, Akka, Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services 

  • Delivery based on micro service architecture and programming frameworks like Spring Boot and Akka

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply)

  • At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

  • At least 2 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 7+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Java, Python,  or Scala

  • 3+ years of people management experien2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service

  • 3+ years of experience in open source frameworks

  • 3+ years of experience working with big data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Presto)

  • 2+ years of experience working on streaming data applications (e.g. Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, or Spark Streaming)

  • 5+ years experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting 

  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices
