What is DGC?

Data Governance Center (DGC) is meant to be a centralized platform for finding and managing various Data Governance Domain concerns, such as Case Management for Data Quality Issues, rapid identification and remediation of HSHD detection findings, or reviewing Data Retention issues & notifications.

         Data governance is a common problem within the enterprise and any LOB that manages large volumes of data. DGC approach is meant to be a deconfliction of all existing workstreams in flight, converge on one standard, and create one platform for Data Governance related concerns. The goal is to start with Case Management for various Data Governance Domains (such as Data Quality, HSHD Detection, Data Retention etc), and prioritizing the governance controls needed by the various LOBs.

Role: As a software engineer you will be owning and responsible for end-to-end delivery of software solutions required by the DGC application. End-to-end refers to various phases of SDLC (Software Development LifeCycle) starting with requirements gathering, interacting with stakeholders (Product, partner teams), review technical feasibility, design the solution/fix, implementation, testing(unit, integration, regression, e2e,...), deployment, and support. We follow YBYO(You Build, You Own) approach along with Agile methodology  to software  development and delivery. Being YBYO the Team is responsible for development and support of the solutions we build.


  • Willingness to learn, up skill, and collaborate. Willing to move out of one's comfort zone and not shy away in the face of challenges(ambiguous and uncertain situations) rather be curious, inquisitive, research/explore and come up with a plan/approach.
  • Come up to speed with the application and software development process, along with gaining knowledge of various Capital One tools used during SDLC.
  • Take part and be engaged in PI(Program Increment) and Sprint planning. Help establish the PI and sprint goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish the requirements.
  • Collaborate with Team(senior, junior) engineers, Architect, and partner teams to review technical feasibility, come up with a plan/approach to solve, deliver and support the solution.
  • Design (high-level, low-level), implementation (code), test (unit, integration, regression, e2e), deployment, and support.
  • We use standardized tools (in-house built and 3rd party) across Capital One for logging, deployment, monitoring, alerting, and supporting.
  • Be a team player, help build the Team through knowledge sharing, helping others to meet the Team goals when required.
  • Innovate, research - identify areas of improvement, gaps in software delivery process - come up with a plan/approach, collaborate with the Team.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 

  • At least 2 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply)

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in at least one of the following: JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, Python, or Go.

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in Agile practices.
