Senior Manager, Content Marketing Strategy

We are seeking a change agent that can help us evolve our Content Marketing strategy practice to keep up with the expanding touch points where we can offer relevant, meaningful content along the customer journey. The Senior Manager will serve as an internal subject matter expert, managing a team of Strategists and guiding our team’s methodology behind data and research driven Content Marketing strategy.  This role will be integral in developing our overall strategy for Content in the US Card business and our audience engagement strategy for acquisitions growth. Role Responsibilities

  • Leverage performance data, marketplace trends and consumer insights to develop an overarching strategy for the role of Content Marketing for the US Card business and manage a team of strategists to create strategies for our key audience segments that ladder into the overall plan. 

  • Development of Content Marketing strategies to grow and nurture our prospect audience through owned channels like our Learn & Grow content hub and card product pages as well as paid channels as appropriate. This starts with deeply understanding the audience segments Capital One supports - what they care about, where they spend time, what triggers them to need a credit card, how they research available options, etc. to determine how to best grow our audience at various stages of the funnel. Refine personas and journey maps to support our strategy.

  • Define the editorial strategy and distribution plan that connects an audience’s interests to our products & services, defining where we can find audience members, understanding format preferences, and generating ideas for how we reach and engage the audience.  

  • Partner with external agencies on SEO for content-led organic search visibility growth

  • Collaborate with third party publishers on sponsored content programs

  • Ensure that all content created is (1) consistent with all other content, (2) carries a distinctive POV appropriate for the audience and format, and (3) intentionally either meets or exceeds alternative content options available to the audience

  • Work with our Advanced Analytics team to monitor/report progress against KPIs to deeply understand content performance and enable a productive feedback loop that generates new content ideas, refinements and adjustments to the strategy

  • Identify opportunities for audience growth on new platforms, new formats, new content campaigns

  • Partner with producers and creative teams, both internal and external, to build and scale Capital One’s presence across acquisition channels. Translate and communicate business intent into a directive manner that creative teams can act on


  • Demonstrates a deep understanding and commitment to audience-first content strategy

  • A track record of success finding and nurturing new audiences through content marketing that drives business outcomes

  • A working knowledge of leading web and data analytics tools, social platforms, digital media, UX strategy, creative development and editorial planning

  • Deep understanding of SEO and how Content Marketing can drive organic visibility

  • Ability to communicate data to others, identify trends, and draw out high leverage insights. Understanding of how to design a testing strategy (A/B, multivariate, etc) for continuous learning to identify leverage. 

  • Thorough understanding of publishing best practices across multiple formats and platforms (Websites, Publisher Sponsorships, YouTube, Search, Social, Display, Email)

  • Well-versed in the digital media landscape including familiarity with martech tools required to enable all aspects of audience development and lead nurturing

  • Ability to identify KPIs and establish a strategy and measurement plan to achieve goals

  • Experience leading a team of marketing strategists with ability to develop talent to their full potential and providing clarity on team goals and responsibilities

  • Curious and creative thinker with the ability to uncover and apply deep consumer insights that generate high-engagement ideas that can be used to cultivate audiences throughout their journey

  • Ability to work from “white space” to build a strategy to achieve a stated objective 

  • Flexible and attentive to detail, must be able to manage multiple projects and navigate changing priorities while maintaining excellent work

  • Along with other senior leaders, act as an evangelist for the role of Content Marketing in building deeper relationships with consumers that drive business value. Serve as a thought leader in the broader Performance Marketing & Analytics and Card teams as well as across the Enterprise.

  • Lead a team of Content Strategists and Producers focused on growth for an assigned audience by inspiring and empowering them to deliver their best work and grow in their career with Capital One. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or military experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in strategic planning, execution, and analysis of multi-channel, data-driven digital marketing programs

  • At least 7 years of experience in leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment

  • At least 5 years of experience as a People Leader managing and mentoring a team of Associates 

  • At least 2 years of experience in Content Marketing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in financial marketing

  • MBA, marketing specialty

  • 4 years of experience working in an Agile team environment
