Senior Director, Software Engineering- Commercial

We’re looking for an influential engineering leader to provide strategic direction on initiatives with significant bottom line impact. This role provides a considerable opportunity for ingenuity, as this individual will work as a key leader of an exceptionally talented team, to deliver cutting edge innovation at a massive scale.

The ideal candidate will devise clear roadmaps to fruition and is comfortable thinking strategically and diving deep; a vanguard leader who can identify opportunities and leverage the team to translate them into live solutions.

 

What you will need to bring for this position:

  • Experience building and leading a large team in the development and rapid delivery of platform capabilities

  • A history of embracing and incubating emerging technology and open source products

  • Recruit, motivate, mentor, and lead the best application engineering talent.

  • Innovative thinking with a passion for problem-solving

  • Ability to provide a logical framework to support conclusions and ideas.

  • Great attitude, team player and energy amplifier. Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and technologies

  • Take ideas and concepts, and visualize them in ways such that they are communicated effectively and compellingly for internal leaders, partners and customers

  • Understanding of ways to lead a team developing in an Agile environment

  • Extend solutions from various points on the software maturity curve

  • Integration of internally built and Vendor applications

  • Strong data skills to be able to lead through system of record conversations as well as the timing of data

  • Machine learning knowledge aimed at problems such as entity resolution and spend patterns of clients.

  • Experience in delivery of software that has many human operational touch points 

  • Experience leading DevOps or Site reliability engineering teams

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to lead a large technical teams

  • Lead the definition of capabilities, guiding the technical architecture and needs to deliver functions spanning people, process and technology

  • Partner with Business Leaders to shape and prioritize initiatives

  • Manage the expectations of a diverse stakeholder group as it relates to progress towards delivery

  • Partner with Vendors who provide key capabilities and ensure there are adequate roadmaps to the future and coverage for the current state

  • Collaborate cross functionally with other areas of business to business Commercial Banking and Capital One to find holistic solutions that deliver the right associate and client experience

  • Find the best solution across the firm and leverage it.  

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least 7 years experience in software development

  • At least 5 years experience building and leading software engineering teams

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree

  • AWS Solution Architect Certification

  • 5+ years' experience in Agile practices

  • 2+ years' experience with Amazon Web Services
