Capital One’s Retail Bank has driven astronomical deposit growth in recent years in support of the enterprise’s surging lending growth. We’ve now set our sights on an even larger mountaintop - becoming a leading national checking franchise. Wouldn’t it be great if Capital One could be first-in-wallet for both credit cards and banking products? To that end, we’ve embarked on an audacious initiative to ramp deposits and Checking sales, and marketing plays a critical role in helping us achieve our objectives.
In this role, Capital One is seeking a seasoned professional with strong analytical skills as well as leadership and people management skills to lead a marketing pod that focuses on growth initiatives for the bank. In this role, you will have the opportunity to take your leadership, marketing strategy and technical skills to the next level. With responsibility for developing and executing the existing Bank customer cross-sell strategy across Email, In-app as well as paid digital channels, you’ll lead a team of 3-4 marketing strategists and analysts, and work closely with a large network of creative and martech resources.

Role specific responsibilities:
Develop and implement marketing strategy targeting existing bank customers for cross sells and upsells into relevant bank products thus deepening their relationship with the bank
Synthesize and implement research insights, marketing trends, competitive landscape, and macro external factors into strategy recommendations
Provide leadership to team members to understand metrics in total business performance and build on analysis to identify new opportunities and adjust marketing/ testing strategies
Provide astute leadership in planning and prioritizing quarterly and annual marketing plans, capacity planning and budget management
Perform as a POD lead following agile ceremonies and leveraging agile platforms such as jira
Demonstrate a keen understanding and judgement of marketing creative, positioning and messaging strategy
Be a champion of all well managed guidelines, ensuring 100% compliance to all control requirements
Efficient management of timely execution and delivery of projects/initiatives/launches
Drive and influence cross-functional teams including partners from: Pricing and Product, Marketing Technology, Digital Channels, Creative Strategy, Operations/Production, Legal etc.
Lead development of learning agenda comprised of both consumer research and in-market testing
Influence internal decision makers with formal recommendations and informal networking through excellent communication and presentation skills
Work proactively in a cross-functional, agile marketing delivery team (Product Owners, Data and Business Analysts, Creative, Legal, Ops, etc.)
Analyze business results, marketplace trends and consumer insights to inform/advance positioning, product strategy, claims, branding and marketing strategy.
Work directly with creative teams (both internal and external) to develop consumer communications, based on insight and brand positioning
Promote and socialize fresh marketing ideas to enrich our evergreen test and learn agenda to becoming scalable , efficient modern marketers
This role requires deep critical thinking, ingenuity, and confidence in leading and developing a team. The role also holds a high level of visibility with senior leadership across the Bank, and requires collaboration across multiple functions and teams within the Bank and across the Enterprise. This is a perfect role for a leader that yearns for autonomy and flexibility and can craft and execute an optimization agenda that will help us grow a national marketing-led banking franchise.
An ideal candidate should have:
Strategic leadership: Develop business strategies that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory behavior
Business ownership: Have an ownership mindset, and potentially P&L accountability for a business segment. Strategic planning with a 1-6 month horizon
Leadership: Will manage a team of marketing strategists and analysts. Coaching and mentoring associates throughout the organization with a goal of developing and retaining talent at Capital One
Marketing: Lead direct to consumer marketing efforts for select products, and strategic intent for products distributed through various channels. Build targeted insights to inform the design and development of new customer experiences, as well as breakthrough technology and concepts designed to deliver on new go-to-market strategies
Marketing: Industry knowledge across leading modern marketing platforms such as Salesforce, Neustar, GMP suite, Google analytics etc as well as experience with latest dynamic creative testing and personalization tools is a plus.
Credit Risk: Drive step-change improvements in credit performance by connecting drivers of future consumer credit trends to historical behavior, creating risk models, and testing hypotheses using rigorous monitoring and analysis
Execution: Coordinate across the line of business to manage and sequence delivery of business intent, build business requirements and execute against the product strategy. Oversee multiple projects and programs concurrently
Partnership: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including: IT, Sales, Operations, Finance and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability
Strategic & analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing & credit risk management
Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: He/she should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business
Solid people leadership experience: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. He/she should foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results
Strong executive communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills
Clear results orientation: display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. He/she should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment
Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus

Master’s Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering
