Senior Associate, Digital Designer, Creative

The Retail Bank & PPX Communications team is responsible for ensuring the best associate experience by developing and implementing internal communications to support executive leadership, business strategies and major change programs. We're focused on getting to know our associates better, connect leaders in news ways, create meaningful communications in an effort to increase associate engagement and drive business success.

We bring stories to life with ingenuity, simplicity and humanity. By joining our team as Digital Designer supporting audio/video, animations and web design, you’ll be empowered to explore and try new things, and find a better way to deliver on key initiatives.

We’re looking for an experienced digital designer to join our in-house Studio Design team. You will help us chart that course by providing the expertise and imagination needed to produce compelling visuals to bring our story to life.

What are we looking for?

As a Digital Designer and multi-channel storyteller, you’ll be part of a smart, creative and talented team responsible for bringing narratives to life and designing visuals that inform, compel and deliver excellence to our Associates and Leadership Team. 

The right person is detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and is willing to go the extra mile who is highly proficient technically and fully embraces the digital mindset. Your role will develop concepts for digital campaigns and continue creating foundational visual and channel assets, supporting Executive Leadership, internal clients and associates with a range of audio/video, digital and intranet needs. The candidate will also have a portfolio of their work for review to show you can create equally compelling and effective web experiences, animations, as well as video productions. This role reports to the Internal Communications Creative Director.

We’re seeking an articulate and thoughtful digital professional who excels in a team environment. This person will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to change quickly. The ability to influence across and up is key to success in this position, as you’ll be collaborating with various partners across all of Capital One on a day-to-day basis. What you’ll do: 

  • Deliver work that spans all project phases, from concept and design through to production (e.g. storyboards, styleframes, animatics and production-ready assets).

  • Ideate, refine, and ideate some more. The beginning of every project involves understanding its particular challenge, scope and purpose. You’ll play a pivotal role in these early stages by brainstorming with the team to solve the project's goal.

  • Explore a variety of creative design options in a rapid, iterative fashion – incorporating feedback from stakeholders at all levels.

  • Articulate your design rationale to stakeholders, gaining buy-in by balancing business goals and user needs.

  • Ensure consistency of material produced meets brand guidelines and quality standards.

  • Stay abreast of technological advances that improve design processes and products.

  • Learn about our associates and be open to testing and feedback on your concepts. We’re a data driven company, and are always looking for new ways to improve everything we do.

  • Stay abreast of creative trends and introduces innovation and changes as appropriate to ensure creative work is industry leading

What you bring:

  • A genuine passion for all things animation and video, with a relentless desire to push the boundaries of motion design.

  • Possesses a deep understanding of how to proactively conceptualize, edit, shoot and produce well-thought out videos. This will include repurposing existing media assets to create new, fresh content. This role will produce, shoot and edit internal videos for various projects and stakeholders.

  • Competency and knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, color correction, media encoding for various display/distribution platforms.

  • Experience building digital assets and knowledge of HTML coding.

  • Ability to present concepts to business partners of varying levels of seniority.

  • Ability to complete multiple projects with competing priority and complexity without compromising quality or brand standards.

  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with clients, vendors, staff and executives.

  • Ability to maintain awareness and share with the team, current design trends as well as different styles of design to execute design projects.

  • You’ve got a strong portfolio that shows how you’re always on the cutting edge of new design trends and are a master at producing striking, effective designs that are fresh, impactful and on-brand. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, Military experience or at least 3 years of professional design experience with a professional portfolio of work, within agency or corporate internal agency environment

  • At least 3 years of experience in Adobe Creative Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in the Google Suite Workspace

  • Knowledge in web coding languages such as HTML and Javascript

  •  1+ years experience hosting web code in AWS

  • Proficient in video production, filming and editing techniques and know how to bring a story to life beyond the standard interview style videos.

  • Effective communication skills as well as the ability to communicate with both creative and non-creatives
