The Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging (DIB) team seeks a talented communicator to help share our DIB commitment, actions and progress internally and externally. The Principal Communications Associate will lead Capital One’s external DIB awards strategy, independently managing external award applications and partnering across teams to shape a holistic DIB narrative. They are well versed in research, and will lead quantitative and qualitative research efforts to strengthen our understanding of audience needs and preferences, while identifying industry best practices. They’re comfortable communicating across channels, and can adapt tone and personality to match the audience and the need. They’re experienced crafting impactful communications and feature articles, and passionate about the opportunity to advance Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging!

What you’ll do:
Develop and execute an annual DIB external awards strategy, managing award submissions and analyzing benchmarking results
Lead market research efforts, including empathy interviews, to identify audience needs and preferences; develop data- and insights-based recommendations on how to communicate most effectively
Identify industry best practices in DIB communications and programming, and leverage insights to influence new tactics and strategies
Develop compelling communications which advance understanding of Capital One’s DIB commitment, actions and progress while elevating associate stories
Provide support for DIB sites, developing expertise with internal and external web platforms
Evaluate performance for communications, based on metrics and other leading key performance indicators; recommend refinements to communications strategies, messaging and feedback mechanisms, as needed
Partner across the enterprise, building relationships to deliver the most impactful communications initiatives
Seek or create opportunities to build inclusive associate experiences
Translate complicated issues into a clear, concise, simple point of view
Advance Capital One’s Talent Brand, including our voice and tone, avoiding “corporate speak” and encouraging natural language
Bachelor’s degree or military experience
At least 3 years of experience in marketing, communications OR public relations
At least 3 years of experience in developing marketing, communications OR copywriting materials
Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
Strong writing and story-telling skills with sound editorial judgment
Previous diversity, equity and inclusion; talent brand; employment; and/or internal employee communications experience
Experienced in leading market research efforts and developing insights
Experience organizing and managing multiple, and sometimes competing projects, to high quality conclusion on-time and within budget
Strong customer-orientation and proven track record of collaborative work relationships
Highly motivated – willing to roll up sleeves and get the job done
