Capital One’s Corporate Communications team is seeking a highly qualified communications specialist - with experience and proven success driving story development and content marketing strategies - to join its Enterprise PR team. This position will integrate across our External Affairs functions (including Community Affairs, Community Finance, Community Development Banking and Government Relations) to unearth compelling, human centered and data-centered stories of impact from the beneficiaries of our community grants and philanthropic initiatives.  

BROAD FUNCTION

The Principal Associate, Enterprise PR - Storytelling will mine for and support content production – written and visual -- across multiple function areas supporting Capital One’s Community Impact work. Efforts aim to raise awareness, engage stakeholders and demonstrate our Corporate Social Responsibility story via new channels and creative strategies. The position’s responsibilities are split between story mining, content creation and embedding within our centralized content strategy team to determine story optimization. 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate will...

  • Have a strong understanding of storytelling fundamentals (effective character, trajectory, hook, authenticity/details and calls-to-action)

  • Have a keen understanding of newsworthiness

  • An understanding of newswriting techniques 

  • Interviewing skills (ability to ask effective questions and develop rapport/trust with story subjects)

  • Understand the effectiveness and appropriateness of story assets (text, images, audio, video) and how to combine them to drive audiences to engage further 

  • Partner with various functions to craft and execute communications strategies and tactics for target audiences

  • Continually improve performance and effectiveness of stories through insightful metrics gathering

  • Engrain in a complete understanding of organization’s overall programming, fundraising, communications and advocacy objectives (this work spans across Capital One’s full External Affairs function)

  • Be a self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Bachelor’s degree

  • At least five years of public relations, content marketing and/or journalism experience

  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Content marketing and/or newsroom/journalism experience

  • Deep understanding and execution of content marketing campaigns

  • Experience working, partnering with and influencing multiple constituents and stakeholders (internal and external), including senior executives 

  • Technical know-how around visual, audio and video content production

  • Exceptional written and visual storytelling skills (writing samples required)
