Principal Associate, Cyber Incident Management

The Cyber Incident Management team at Capital One is responsible for coordinating, documenting, communicating, and tracking all Cyber Incidents impacting Capital One. The associate in this role will define, monitor, and measure the accomplishment of these responsibilities, work closely with Cyber Operations and Intelligence teams, as well as teams across the enterprise to ensure tight integration and resilience of all operations. When incidents occur, the associate in this role will coordinate teams to through efficient response. The associate should be willing to work in an operational environment, which may include long or odd hours. The associate as a PA is expected to lead team members. 


 

General Responsibilities:

  • Execute day-to-day incident management operations

  • Use technology infrastructure and operational processes to enable a more effective incident management process

  • Develop and distribute executive-level summaries of cyber incidents which impact Capital One assets 

  • Communicate technical cyber threat & incident response operations information across the Cyber division, to include the CISO and CIO

  • Verify work is properly documented in the system of record

  • Engage with associates across the Capital One enterprise

  • Benchmark “as-is” Cyber Incident Management processes and technology against industry

  • Identify and track incident management performance measures to provide relevant performance trends over time

  • Analyze incident management performance by observing trends, identifying and prioritizing corrective actions, and directing those corrective actions to increase accountability

  • Improve process effectiveness, demonstrate compliance, and provide quantifiable inputs for resource allocation decisions

  • Define quantifiable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure efficiency and success of Incident Response team activities

  • Automate the production of interval based reports which provide KPI metrics

  • Coordinate with various teams in clarifying security risks, and roles and responsibilities related to ongoing Incident Response cases

  • Provide support to operational & cybersecurity strategy development

  • Maintain updated knowledge of best practices in cyber operations and incident response processes to identify and recommend new technologies and/or processes with the potential to enhance operations

  • Develop, follow, and maintain playbooks which enable consistent work

  • Identify and enhance processes where automation has the potential to improve efficiency


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • At least 3 years of experience working in a Security Operations Center or supporting an Incident Response Team

  • At least 1 year of experience with cyber threat analysis and mitigations 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certification: CEH, GCIA, GCIH or Security+

  • Master's Degree in fields such as Business, Information Systems, Emergency Management, and Engineering or military experience

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage responsibilities across multiple areas and projects

  • Emergency management skills (NIMS/ICS)

  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous responsibilities

  • Ability to analyze information and data

  • Excellent problem-solving and conceptual thinking abilities, especially with technical troubleshooting

  • Ability to develop and communicate recommendations to non-technical associates in business areas

  • Effective process management skills

  • Strong collaborative partnership skills for working with various points of contacts internal and external to Capital One
