Launched in late 2021, Capital One’s newly formed Insights Center is a nascent cross-functional platform for data and dialogue which produces insights that advance equity and inclusion. The Center’s research is focused on creating a more inclusive society, building thriving communities and developing financial tools that enrich lives. This involves coverage of topics across the policy ecosystem, including financial health and inclusion, inclusive growth, affordable housing, and many other related topics.
In this role, the Communications Manager will have the opportunity to individually and collaboratively bring exciting ideas to life through the development and execution of data-driven public relations programs in support of the Capital One Insights Center. In this role, the associate will lead external-facing, multi-dimensional and integrated communications campaigns across channels to raise awareness, enhance perception and drive coverage of the Insight Center’s research and thought leadership products.
The Communication Manager will shape, own and develop communications strategies for the full range of Center research, content, covenings and external engagements, ensuring that those strategies are informed by insights from the external environment, enterprise communications goals and business intent. The associate will also proactively identify, assess and mitigate issues and risks impacting research products, while furthering a story rooted in the Center and Capital One’s mission to a broad range of external stakeholders. The manager will serve as a strategic counselor to the Insight Center and External Affairs’ team leaders.
The right candidate should demonstrate big picture and bold thinking, the ability to translate complex topics and research into compelling communications, excellent judgment, problem solving, growth mindset, and have an in-depth understanding of the ever-changing media landscape.
The Communications Manager will report to the Director of the Insights Center and work closely with the Insights Center President and team; Corporate Communications and broader External Affairs; Corporate Strategy, and multiple enterprise and external partners.

Anticipated Responsibilities Include:
Contribute to the development of the Insight Center’s overarching communications strategy and messaging platform ensuring alignment with and support for the overall objectives of the Center, External Affairs and the company.
Design, manage and execute tactical plans and program activations that advance the Center’s strategic communications goals
Inform the development of the Center’s overall research agenda as well as all individual research products through a communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement lens.
Build strong relationships with a wide variety of external and internal stakeholders; determining stakeholder priorities and relevant impacts to the Center’s overall communications strategy, as well as individual Center research products and content.
Lead ongoing, insights-based and results-focused PR programming to enhance awareness of the Capital One Insight Center, and deliver on the Center and Capital One’s bold external engagement, CSR and public affairs goals. Thoughtfully yet nimbly determine when to incorporate earned media, owned content, paid media, social and other communications and engagement into programming.
Position Insight Center and External Affairs leaders as industry leaders and integrate their voice authentically in relevant conversations that further communications and storytelling.
Establish and maintain relationships with key media outlets and influencers to further impactful storytelling.
Identify, build and maintain effective relationships with partners across the enterprise, including members of the broader corporate communications and external affairs teams, corporate strategy and lines of business
Develop and maintain deep fluency and expertise in relevant external trends impacting the Insight Center and External Affairs.
Play a key role in the company’s efforts to anticipate, identify and address potential threats to reputation health.
Leverage a broad-based knowledge of the external environment and key stakeholders (media, customers, activists, regulators, policymakers, community and industry influencers) to provide communications advice and counsel to enhance and protect corporate reputation.
Manage agency partners and large-scale budgets.
Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
At least 5 years of Communications, Marketing, Public Relations experience or a combination
At least 2 years experience building end-to-end communications strategies
Master’s Degree in Business, Public Policy, Social Science, Communications, Marketing/Public Relations, or Journalism
At least 7 years of Communications, Marketing, Public Relations experience or a combination
At least 5 years experience building end-to-end communications strategies
At least 5 years experience in media relations
At least 5 years training and preparing senior level spokespeople for media interviews
At least 2 years experience developing multi-channel communications strategies and tactical plans
At least 2 years of experience in any of the following fields: academic publishing, public policy, social impact, financial health, or economics
At least 2 years experience distilling and integrating complex data and research into compelling stories and earned media plans
At least 2 years communicating to and engaging with decisionmaker audiences- such as elected officials and community activists
At least 2 years identifying KPI’s and measuring campaign results
Agency background and experience supporting Fortune 500 clients
