Distinguished Engineer - Card Tech Core (Remote Eligible)

• Deep technical expertise and thought leadership that helps accelerate adoption of the very best engineering practices, while maintaining knowledge on industry innovations, trends and practices

• Vision, collaborating on Capital One’s toughest issues, to deliver on business needs that directly impact the lives of our customers

• Design and develop cutting-edge solutions, using existing and emerging technology platforms

• Mentorship, Be hands on and get involved in developing POCs, designing systems, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community

• A strong voice, helping to elevate the Distinguished Engineering community and establish it as a go-to resource on given technologies and technology-enabled capabilities

Responsibilities:

• Build out implementable designs using latest and greatest approved tech

• Ability to guide the program on breaking down complex design into smaller chunks 

• Be the brand and face of the program in architecture review meetings

• Will be the tech SME for the program 

• Build awareness, increase knowledge and drive adoption of modern technologies

• Strike the right balance between lending expertise and providing an inclusive environment where others’ ideas can be heard and championed; leverage expertise to grow skills in the broader Capital One team

• Promote a culture of engineering excellence, using opportunities to use mobile native solutions where possible for Card business

• Effectively communicate with and influence key stakeholders within our Card business and across the enterprise, at all levels of the organization

• Operate as a trusted advisor for specific technology, platform or capability domain, helping to shape use cases and implementation in an unified manner

• Lead the way in creating next-generation talent for Tech, mentoring internal talent and actively recruiting external talent to bolster Capital One’s Tech talent

• Grow more leaders and DEs

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree 

• At least 7 years experience of software development using Java, Go Lang, or Python

• At least 3 years experience with cloud native technologies

• At least 3 years experience designing scalable resilient tech architecture 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters’ Degree 

• 10+ years software development experience

• 7+ years experience designing and building enterprise platform solutions

• 5+ years of experience with Agile software development

• 3+ years experience with AWS

• 3 + years of experience as a Data Engineer and data modeling 

• AWS Certifications

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Location is New York City: $260,592 - $307,440 for Distinguished Engineer

Location is San Francisco, California: $276,034 - $325,658 for Distinguished Engineer

Remote roles in other areas of New York & California, and across Colorado & Washington: $220,854 - $260,558 for Distinguished Engineer

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
