Director, Strategic Partnership Development- Card

This is an exciting time for Capital One Card Partnerships, as we are looking to expand our business aggressively in the partner credit card segment, not only through organic growth in existing programs, but also through acquisitions of new card partners, the focus of this role. The ideal candidate will strongly influence the evolution of Capital One’s business development strategy for the Partnerships business, and lead the translation of that strategy into successful identification and recruitment of future partners.

In this Director role, you will help drive Capital One’s new partner acquisition strategy, including both identification of target businesses and developing the targeted approach and story that helps Capital One win each business we pursue. You will work with a cross functional team to:

  • Identify and evaluate potential partner companies and brands

  • Create a tailored pitch strategy for winning each business we compete for

  • Develop and deliver significant portions of the pitch, including:

    • Customer research and development of insights

    • Developing a point of view around the consumer value proposition

    • Demonstrating how Capital One will help invent (or reinvent) the target partner's credit card marketing mix to achieve key acquisitions and customer management objectives

    • Recommending an approach to customer lifecycle including migrating current cardholders to Capital One, acquiring and growing with new cardholders and maximizing the relationship throughout the lifecycle.

    • Crafting program positioning and Omni channel marketing plans

  • Transition newly-won business from the business-development team to our vertical business units

Responsibilities:

  • Development of the partnerships strategy including industry benchmarking

  • Perform marketplace and industry analyses with the goal of identifying product opportunities, and uncovering potential market and partner plays

  • Manage initial contact with potential partners, research specific partner and customer needs, and incorporate into partnership pitches

  • Support the RFP process for new partners across the organization

Competencies:

  • Proven ability to identify opportunities and deliver effective strategies to generate results

  • Strong analytical, project management, presentation, marketing and creative skills

  • Proven ability to negotiate and influence senior level decision makers

  • Experienced in strategic marketing planning and product development

  • Ability to make strategically bold decisions in a disciplined, fact-based manner

  • Proven ability to work independently and demonstrate intellectual rigor

  • Organizational skills and effective time management to succeed in a competitive and dynamic environment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 7 years experience in consulting OR at least 7 years experience in client development OR at least 7 years experience in partnership management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA)

  • At least 3 years People Management experience
