Director, Data Analytics

We are seeking a Director, Data Analytics to join our Retail Bank Operations Team.  We need to continuously improve our data capabilities to ensure our customers can meet their needs on their terms.  Capital One continues to mature its Business Intelligence and analytical capabilities, as we adopt Big Data tools and other developing data technologies, both proprietary and open-source. This position will have a significant impact on Bank Operations as well as the Retail Bank at large.  We are seeking someone who can take charge, think big, and deliver on their commitments.

What you’ll do:  

This position will lead a team of Data Analysts that support the Bank Operations. Working with Retail Data Leadership and Technology partners, you will be responsible for advancing our Bank Operations data infrastructure. Your team will be responsible for all data needs in Bank Operations, both Capital One data and third party data required to support the business. The right candidate for this role will be passionate about:

  • People Leadership: Leading a diverse team of motivated Data Analyst

  • Transformation: Leading Bank Operations on Data Transformation journey 

  • Well Managed: Creating a robust data infrastructure enabling accuracy and timeliness

  • Innovation: Drive modernization and innovation on data storage, consumption and data driven insights

Key accountabilities: 

  • Develop the talent on the Bank Operations data analytics team

  • Developing a program to train the team and enhance associate skill-sets

  • Drive adoption of Big Data technologies

  • Lead Bank Operations’ migration to a fully cloud based data environment - “True Source”

  • Drive data source and tool innovations based on stakeholder data needs, including adoption of cloud native technologies

  • Create innovative data products that uncover opportunities to improve efficiency and controls

  • Create a consistent framework to manage and mitigate data risks

  • Be a Strategic leader in defining roadmaps in an incremental way to support business goals

  • Partner with diverse stakeholders (from Analysts to Executives) inside and outside of Bank Operations

  • Partner with various engineering and enterprise functions in adopting and informing data flow standards across ingestion, transformation, access and publishing

  • Support large cross-functional initiatives

  • Partner with other data teams across Retail Bank and the Enterprise to become a thought leader in broader data community at Capital One

 

This position will be in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment where you will be handling multiple concurrent projects while working independently and in teams. An ideal candidate will possess strong problem solving and conceptual thinking abilities in addition to communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. 

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least 5 years of Professional Data Analysis experience

  • At least 5 years of People Management experience

  • At least 2 years of Big Data technology experience

  • At least 2 years of Data Visualization experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree

  • 10+ years of Professional Data Analysis experience

  • 5+ years of Big Data experience (AWS and Spark)

  • 5+ years of cloud native (AWS) data processing experience

  • 5+ years of Process Management experience

  • 5+ years of Project Management experience

  • 5+ years of experience with Python

  • 5+ years of Data Governance experience

  • 2+ years of experience with streaming data technologies (Kafka, Flink, Spark streaming)

  • 2+ years of experience with Java or 2+ years of experience with C++
