Director, Software Engineering & Technical Product Management

Capital One is looking for a Software Engineering leader with a background in product management for a team focused on the commercialization of our pioneering technology products. This is an exciting opportunity to truly be part of a startup but with the ability to build products at significant scale. You will be tasked with expanding and externalizing our product suite. As we have transformed into a Technology company, we have found ourselves with a portfolio of effective tools and platforms that meet customer needs, but don’t exist in the marketplace.  Be a founding and integral member of a team driving the technology strategy and approach, product/platform development, and re-architecting and re-engineering for multiple enterprise customers and scale.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with leadership, customers, and within and across Agile teams to strategically design, develop, test, implement, and support product across full-stack development tools and technologies

  • Leading the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, scalability, and productization of your solutions

  • Setting quality standards, building mechanisms and processes for team efficiency, continuously inventing and simplifying

  • Direct management of software engineers

  • Engaging customers directly through a variety of channels to serve as the voice of the customer internally- identifying new capabilities, defining product features, and working closely with development teams to get those features incorporated

  • Working in a cross-functional group - closely partnering with engineering, design, operations, finance and executive teams to bring a consumer product to the market and develop and grow a new business opportunity for Capital One

  • Maintaining current technical knowledge to support rapidly changing technology, always looking for new technologies to bring back to the team.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Significant expertise in establishing and developing strong working relationships with all levels of associates and external parties, while maintaining appropriate levels of objectivity to their work

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a start-up like environment, and adept at synthesizing a variety of technologies and capabilities into high quality products and applications that customers love

  • Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment

  • Technical knowledge and depth necessary to propose and influence new product and feature ideas

  • Analytical and quantitative skills; experience using hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior executives

  • Ability to translate business strategy and analysis into customer facing products

  • History of teamwork and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 5 years of software development experience

  • At least 3 years of product management experience

  • At least 3 years of experience working with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience delivering Enterprise products and services

  • 3+ years of experience in Agile product management

  • 5+ years delivering customer-facing solutions

  • 5+ years of experience taking a project from scoping requirements through the launch of the project.
