Manager, Enterprise Payments Authority Lead - McLean, VA / Richmond, VA

Job Description:

The Enterprise Payments team sits within the Commercial Bank but provides payments fulfillment capabilities along with governance and related services for all of Capital One. This ~150 person team plays a critical role in the operational processing, governance, and product management of the platforms enabling $4 Trillion+ in annual payment transactions. 

We are creating a new Manager level role to lead the Payments Authority function. In this role you will manage payments governance and execute payments authorization for wire and check products. More specifically, core responsibilities for managing this function include:

  • Ownership of an Level-2 (L2) process with two supporting Level-3 (L3) processes

  • Management day-to-day requests for payments authority from across the Enterprise

  • Ownership of recurring reconcilement activities for payment authorities and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control

  • Governance activities including managing an annual attestation in partnership with the lines of business


In addition to running these BAU aspects of the role, we have an ambitious change agenda in Payments Authority to enhance and document our controls, rationalize existing authority levels, and drive to an overall sustainably well-managed environment.

In this role, you will partner closely with other Enterprise Payments horizontal services providers, Enterprise Payments origination and fulfillment teams, the Commercial Risk Office, and our 2nd Line Risk Management partners.


In this role you will have one direct report who will be responsible for driving the day-to-day support of payments authority. 


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in Process Management

  • At least 1 year of experience in People Management


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Industrial engineering, Process engineering, Process management, Systems Engineering, Management, Business or Business Administration (MBA)

  • Process or Project Management certification (i.e. Lean, Six Sigma, PMP), Business Management certification

  • 5 years of experience in Process Management

  • 5 years of experience in People Management

  • 3 years of experience in Risk Management
